Sunpu Castle founder room and defense around this East Gate. The childhood Ieyasu who probably studied in this kind of room later became first #tokugawa#shogun who ended the #戦国時代#sengoku chaos.
He rebuilt this castle likely just in case of future war(s). Sunpu #shizuoka serves as the best fort defending Edo (today s Tokyo) which is the shogun powerbase.
A short stroll on the high ground beside this Gate one can tell how wide and tough crack this castle complex served (i m also posting the full miniature model here). The ground would be laid with endless, seemless stone walls and high fenses.
Count in the continuously grand ditch surrounding the whole complex you got a height of seven or eight floors (almost impossible to climb) that houses a full army which can quickly mobilize around these grounds. Any enemy army seeing this will surely be depressed.
Of course with medieval buildings limited to at most 3 stories high, this Castle complex would awe and secure local citizens as living symbol for good politics.
Sunpu Castle 270 degrees defense of East Gate (turrets for firepower and arrows), and more... Interior is well rebuilt with traditional wood structures. Displays include real models of this grand castle, artifacts and tech and symbols that added a touch to the Castle legends and beauty. #shizuoka#駿府城公園
