  • Starting to feel ready for the big day around here! One of our fave traditions is unpacking & hanging our ornaments from family trips we’ve gone on (yes, some are totally tacky, but I gave up on a perfectly decorated tree long ago, prob when they started bringing home those crappy craft-happy ornaments from preschool... so special tho, right? 🥴). The kids love to reminisce about memories of our travels together, and I love the reminder to them that taking them with us IS a gift, a big gift... one I’m sure the little freeloaders won’t fully realize until they have to pay their own way lol.
~
John & I have never gone away together, without them in tow... our childcare options have been limited, especially after having lost most of their grandparents. But we’re just used to that now, and truthfully it would feel weird not to have them enjoying vacations with us. I love experiencing places through their eyes. They unwittingly force you to be present & take it all in, which is also a gift.
~
Being away from his business is the only time John fully unwinds, and the kids get all of him (and they’re usually all so busy having fun together, they leave me alone 🤣). So we choose to put some things on the back burner to be able to travel (literally, the large element on our stove hasn’t worked in 6 months, we probably really need a new one, it’s 17 years old), but it’s worth it, the kids won’t cherish memories of a new stove (or a new deck that’s not rotting like the one that was supposed to come down a year ago 🙄... I’m not bitter, it’s fine), like they would spending that quality time together.
~
Do you travel both with & without kids? And do you collect ornaments from trips? (It must be a thing, since you can find them any place you go, at any time of the year!)

  • Had the best mini vacay with the fam 🎄We even cut down our own tree this year! Spoiler alert... it wasn’t this tree. .
The tree we took with us had been waiting twelve years. TWELVE YEARS! Twelve years waiting for us to bring her home. And man, is she absolutely beautiful! .
I’m busting my butt today getting in work and getting ready for the Poho Holiday Night Market @chspourhouse tomorrow night! Hope to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones ✨

“The fir tree looked at the lovely garden and then at itself. It thought of its youth in the forest and of Christmas Eve and of the little mice in the attic.
'I was happy and I never even knew it!' said the old tree. 'I always wanted something else. Now it's all past – gone forever!'
Then the servant came and set fire to the tree. It blazed brightly and sighed deeply, thinking of its happy past and how foolish it had been. Each sigh was like a little shot. And then the tree was burned to ashes.”
