  • That T2 lock up 👀
.
Braking at the Red Bull Ring, AUSTRIA into T2 is incredibly late! With thanks to such a steep incline cars can be seen to brake as late as the 50 marker board, decelerating from speeds ~320kph down to ~70kph!
.
This braking zone is bumpy and can be easy to lock the brakes. Keep to the right hand side of the white line running up the left of the track. Its tempting to go over it and use the extra foot of tarmac on the other side but this acts as a drainage gully so has large drain grates dotted along its length (limiting grip). Turn in just before the marshals hut on the left and use the kerb Again you have uphill braking into 2 but the braking area is quite bumpy here. Keep to the right hand side of the white line running up the left of the track. Its tempting to go over it and use the extra foot of tarmac on the other side but this acts as a drainage gully so has large drain grates dotted along its length. Turn in just before the marshals hut on the left and use the kerb on the inside, avoiding the yellow sausage. This corner climbs steeply as you go through it so it is difficult to get the car to do exactly as you want it too. A touch too fast on the turn in and the front will wash wide, a touch too slow and you will get a load of power oversteer on the exit as the weight distribution shifts mid corner. Getting the power down is important here as the first bit of acceleration out of the corner is uphill. Avoid the kerb and grass mat on the exit as this will reduce your traction as you accelerate.

• Some happy hour inspiration from our friends at Winery Reflections. Lots of mouth-watering 😋 reviews of natty wines 🍷 we carry, check 'em out.

#repost @wineryreflections Fresh-picked strawberry, crushed rock, plump tangerine. Young raspberry, soft cherry blossom, juicy peach. Simple, clean, and unpretentious, packed with fresh and juicy farmstand berries shining brightly and complemented by delightfully spritzy effervescence. Zingy minerality backs the youthful and primary fruit, extending the finish and adding palpable crunch. Uncomplicated and dry on the palate, boasting elevated acidity that quenches and refreshes. Extremely low in alcohol at 10.5% ABV; perfectly sessionable and lunch friendly. This 2018 "Prosa" by Meinklang is a straightforward and fun Pinot Noir based Frizzante from eastern Austria.
.
Sparkling wine comes in many unique and delicious styles. This bottling, crafted by Meinklang using a blend of Pinot Noir/Blaufränkisch/Zweigelt sourced from their biodynamic estate in Burgenland Austria, playfully explores the lightly sparkling Frizzante style popularized in Northern Italy. While it lacks the layered complexity and sheer depth of an aged Methode Champenoise cuvée this wine is wonderfully lighthearted and bright. It presents clean and juicy fruit, rocky minerality, and nice crispness while remaining exceptionally lean and fresh. This wine is perfect for any occasion when uncomplicated enjoyment is the end goal, and it promises to pair well with nearly any dish served alongside it. A delightful discovery we made thanks to our good friends at Rae Vino.
.
Have you tried a Frizzante?

  • This young Austrian lady was not just elegant and beautiful, she was also extraordinary bright with a deep soul, and is the first woman to be rewarded in 1905 the Nobel Peace Prize (as well as the first Austrian Nobel laureate). Born Gräfin (Countess) Bertha Kinsky von Wchinitz in 1843 (from the prominent Czech princely Kinsky family, one of the most illustrious of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) she received the traditional education at Kinsky Palace (near Prague) deemed proper for a young girl of her social status: private tutors, pianist and singing lessons (she became quite accomplished as a singer and even contemplated a career as an opera singer). She declined proposals from prominent aristocrats to marry her (including Prince Philipp zu Sayn-Wittgenstein) and concentrating on writing. She eventually got engaged to another Sayn-Wittgenstein prince but her fiancé died and she found a place as a companion to the four daughters of the Suttner family living in Vienna. Bertha fell in love with the girls’ elder brother, Baron Arthur von Suttner and married in secrecy (his family disapproving). She briefly worked as a secretary to Alfred Nobel in Paris while her husband worked as a reporter. They moved to Tbilisi in Georgia, experienced poverty, and both started writing as a career. Her first important book, Inventury of the Soul, published in 1883 dealt with disarmament and the need for a world peace. They eventually reconciled with Arthur’s family and moved back to Austria and settled at Harmannsdorf Castle. Bertha concentrated on peace and war issues, and became an international leading figure in the peace movement, notably following the publication of her pacifist novel Lay Down Your Arms, and she also became a leader in the women’s liberation movement. She met Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria, pleading for an international court of justice and travelled to the US to meet President Roosevelt. She was influenced by Darwin and Tolstoy (who admired her and said there was a strong similarity between her and Harriet Beecher Stowe). Bertha died in June 1914, a week before Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed, triggering WWI. #berthavonsuttner
