  • Turtles can sleep at the surface or deep down, wedged under rocks and ledges and often return to the same spot to rest and sleep. This turtle wasn’t asleep but it was not at all interested in hanging around while a bunch of noisy divers nosed around it’s habitat.
I use a long extension on my GoPro which allows me to get some great close ups of animals without encroaching on their space. This turtle took at look at the group behind me and decided to leave, sneaking off behind some divers.
I’m thinking this turtle is a female - the tail is much shorter than other turtles we spotted in the water. Boys have big tails and girls have much shorter tails.
The green turtle is listed by the IUCN as endangered. The organisation stresses the point that while this species is being protected, numbers are still in decline and healthy habitats are being lost.
I’ve tagged IUCN. Please take a look for yourselves.

  • Today's litter pick is dedicated to my daughter, it was her birthday today. She's technically been a grown up for several years now, however, I'll always see the beautiful little 4 year old shining through her. .

Another little story... I was so overwhelmed to receive a perfectly healthy little human in my arms that it didn't occur to me to ask whether she was a boy or a girl. My love for this tiny being was so strong, that something as trivial as gender did not matter. Only much later did I find out she was a girl. Love sees love, it's that simple, everything else falls away. .

To celebrate her day, I went back to the spot on the island where we spent many hours and days during the summer swimming, supping, having fun and enjoying being together in each other's company. .

This was also most likely the last SUP session for a little while, the tides are getting too low for the shorter days plus the winds are getting really strong. I'm temporarily bound to land, looking forward to seeing what this brings 🙂. .

  • EN: You may know Sir David Attenborough for his beautiful animal documentaries on the BBC but did you know that he’s been fighting for the environmental cause for more than 60 years ?⁣
⁣
By the turn of the millennium, his documentaries adopted a more overtly environmentalist stance:⁣
⁣
1️⃣ In State of the Planet (2000), he assessed the impact of man’s activities on the natural world⁣
2️⃣ In The Truth about Climate Change (2006), he turned to the issues of global warming ⁣
3️⃣ In How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth? (2009), he talked about human population growth ⁣
⁣
🌱💪 Today, he has issued his strongest statement yet on the threat posed to the world by climate change. In the BBC programme Climate Change - The Facts (2019), he outlined the scale of the crisis facing the planet. ⁣
Sir David said : "It may sound frightening, but the scientific evidence is that if we have not taken dramatic action within the next decade, we could face irreversible damage to the natural world and the collapse of our societies"⁣

  • You know you’re doing life right when your mahi IS THE TREATS 🌏
———————————————-
Our hands go up to the beautiful humans of @puresaltnz + @ghostfishingnz who pulled off an epic Fiordland marine clean up project with the support of @kinascollay, @saminthewild_ , @legaseanz, + @phillip_puckey. ——————————————-
Collecting almost 5 tonnes of rubbish from the water was extremely sobering considering it only scratched the surface of the amount still down there. This project not only highlighted the stark reality of ocean litter but it also brought awareness around the threats to Fiordland fish stocks, largely influenced by recreational fishing, as well as the biosecurity risks to our native ocean flora + fauna being introduced by the ever increasing visiting vessels with questionable hull cleanliness ☹️.
💧.
Despite this harsh reality it was incredibly humbling to see how much work is being done by key players like Maria + Sean at Pure Salt NZ to help preserve this slice of heaven. They are truely leading by example! .
💧.
OUR KEY LEARNINGS:
1) Don’t bloody litter. Be a tidy kiwi 🌏.
2) Catch for the table, not the entire extended family 🦞.
3) Clean your dirty little pest filled hull 🛥 .
4) There’s always something you can do to help keep Aotearoa green + blue 🙌🏽 .
💧.
~Connect //Respect //Protect~ 💧.
Who’s keen to help on the next marine clean up!? .

On Sea Lion Island we spotted the mighty Elephant Seal Bulls. As docile as they seem when they are sleeping, they can suddenly come up with a roar when antagonist by little birds or a Caracara!

“To all those women - strong enough to be heroes; fair enough to be ladies.”
_Robert Fanney_
_
While women enjoy equal rights in most areas on Myanmar, they are generally expected to perform the domestic chores for men in addition to any day job. Many fulfil the role as cleaner, cook, and child minder as well as an income earner.
And that's a lot of stuffs to do.
_
Take this young lady with her child we met on our hike to Inle Lake for example. With all those duties, to call her a hero is way too underrating, I'd say a superhero fit better.

PS: Amay (Burmese): mother
