If Straddle Planche is goal, you’ll want to add these into your arsenal as it will help you increase both your straight arm pressing strength as well as your bent arm pressing strength through your full range of motion. Even if straddle Planche isn’t your goal, working up towards Tuck Planche Push ups will help you increase core strength and mobility for pushing movements. -

A lot of people find difficulty lifting their feet off of the floor to Tuck Planche. It’s a difficult movement and It’s definitely not something you want to just jump into. Jump into in the sense of you don’t want to advance too soon but also you don’t want to rely on jumping with your lower body to Tuck Planche. It all comes from leaning forward more. You’ll need a good amount of flexibility in the wrists and strength in the shoulders and midsection to do this. -

To make it easier on your wrists you can use Parallettes. Training on the Parallettes allows you to practice arm balances with your hands in a closed fist position, holding on to something. By changing the angle of the load on the wrist, you can begin practicing skills and finding your balance. -

The following progressions demonstrated by GMB Trainer Eduardo @eorihuela will help you increase your pushing strength and bring you one strep closer to Straddle Planche. -

  • WANT TO HOLLOW BACK PRESS? -

The Hollow Back Press is a combination of the Handstand Push Up and Bent Arm Planche.  The move looks really cool and takes some practice even if you have the strength, flexibility, and balance. I actually learned this by accident - I was going through the @gmbfitness Parallettes 2 program and did a lot of Handstand Push Ups and Arm Levers. Then one day I saw some some guy on Instagram do it and I tried it. I failed for the first week or so but eventually learned to do it. It was mostly learning the pattern of the movement to fill in the gap between the vertical and horizontal position and hand placement. -

1. Don’t try to skip ahead. Make sure your wrist flexibility is very good as the move requires a greater forward lean. 
2. Eventually you’ll need a Handstand to do this. Develop good balance in the HS while building your base strength and flexibility. No matter how strong you are, if you can’t balance the HS, it’ll be extremely hard to progress. 
3. Work on other strength first. Exercises like Forward Lean Push ups, Military Press, Inverted Presses can be made infinitely harder and translate to more than just one skill. Use exercises like those to build strength. 
4. Work longer on negatives. Bridge the gap by working the descent of the motion and holding the bottom of the position. As you get stronger you can press up with a Straddle

  • STRICT BAR MUSCLE UP TUTORIAL -

The Strict Muscle Up whether on Rings or Bar can be broken down to 5 Parts:
1. False Grip 
2. Pull-up
3. Transition 
4. Dip
5. Top support -

In order to perform a Strict Muscle Up you’ll want to have these individual pieces down with ease. Preferably you’ll want to start these progressions with the ability to perform full range Pull Ups and Dips with good control. -

False Grip: 
The false grip is a way to hold the bar where your wrist will flex over the bar.  This allows for a much easier transition to move over the bar for a slow and controlled movement. This is usually done with a thumbless grip but you can experiment and see what feels best for you. -

Transition: The transition is usually the hardest part for people to understand. You’ll pull your chest to the bar first with a false grip at a slight angle. Once you make contact with your chest you will do three things. 
1. Bend at the hips 
2. Pull elbows back 
3. Lower chest -

Top Support: 
This is the top position when you complete the Muscle Up. You’ll have to adjust your hand position from flexed to slightly extended and dip to the top position. You’ll also form a slight angle leaning forward while keeping your body straight. So squeeze your butt and abs. The Strict Bar Muscle Up will form an “S” shape. -

The following progressions demonstrated by GMB Trainer @eorihuela will help you towards your first Strict Bar Muscle Up! 
1. Pull up - video says chin up, small brain fart :-)
2. Chest to Bar 
3. Explosive 
4. Negative 
5. Momentum + Negative

  • WANT TO LEARN THE HUMAN FLAG? -

The Human Flag is a combination of pushing, pulling, and anti-rotation contraction. The top hand is pulling while the bottom hand is pushing. You can use two horizontal bars like I’m using here, or you can use a pole. I find two bars like the Rogue Fitness attachment that I’m using here much more comfortable and easier to perform. -

If you have a Heavy Turkish Get Up (more than half bodyweight) and Front Lever, you’ll have the scapular strength, straight arm strength, core strength, pushing and pulling strength, and body control for the Human Flag. Before attempting to do these though, seek out a coach near you or online to check out your technique. -

Now I’m not saying this is the only way and I’m definitely not saying that you NEED a heavy TGU or Front Lever to Human Flag. I’m just saying, it’s going to make your progress a whole lot easier and safer while simultaneously improving your Front Lever and Get Up which have amazing carryover to numerous skills and activities. -

Why the TGU? 
1. Promotes shoulder stability, mobility, hypertrophy, and strength
2. Develops body and spatial awareness 
3. Improves grip, core, and pushing strength 
4. Huge carryover to sports, lifts, and daily life
5. Intro to Straight Arm work -

Why the Front Lever? 
1. Coordination of various muscles 
2. Improves core, grip, and pulling strength 
3. Improves body control 
4. Huge carryover to sports and skills 
5. Huge improvement in straight arm work-

And of course, many more reasons! But the idea remains the same. If you can Front Lever and TGU Heavy the carryover to sports is fantastic as well as being able Human Flag by default.

  • FOR THE SUPER STIFF -

WORK YOUR MOBILITY. Every skill (including sports and major lifts) has some combination of required flexibility, strength, body awareness, and technique. Lacking one of these and you increase your chances of injury while improving these will increase your chances of doing the skill. Therefore the purpose of choosing exercises in your strength and mobility program are important. -

The exercises you choose should be based on your own goals, limitations, and equipment available. My client Alden is one of the tightest people I know. He worked hard to gain shoulder mobility to Back Squat and Good Morning and now we’re working on gaining mobility to Deadlift. Like most people here, Alden wants to feel better while building a stronger and more resilient body. While reassessing his goals and time, we came up with this list of exercises to tackle his goals: .

Push: Depth Ring Push Ups or Turkish Get Up
Pull: Full Range Pull ups or Rows
Squat: Weighted Squat Variations 
Hinge: Seated Good Mornings -

We chose these exercises as a way to stretch one part of his body while strengthening another. We also based this on the human movements that will have carryover to things we do in our daily lives. We push, we pull, we squat, and we bend over. If you program these into your program while making it relevant to your situation, it will help you become stronger and more flexible. -

Something to remember: 
1. Stay consistent - Physical goals, whether its strength, flexibility, or body awareness require consistency, persistence, and patience 
2. Be mindful - I can tell you by experience that skipping ahead just takes longer 
3. Be OK with where you’re at today. Skills will be hard as hell for a VERY long time .

He worked hard to gain shoulder mobility to Back Squat and Good Morning and now we’re working on gaining mobility to Deadlift. Like most people here, Alden wants to feel better while building a stronger and more resilient body. While reassessing his goals and time, we came up with this list of exercises to tackle his goals: .

    Push: Depth Ring Push Ups or Turkish Get Up
    Pull: Full Range Pull ups or Rows
    Squat: Weighted Squat Variations
    Hinge: Seated Good Mornings -

    We chose these exercises as a way to stretch one part of his body while strengthening another. We also based this on the human movements that will have carryover to things we do in our daily lives. We push, we pull, we squat, and we bend over. If you program these into your program while making it relevant to your situation, it will help you become stronger and more flexible. -

    Something to remember:
    1. Stay consistent - Physical goals, whether its strength, flexibility, or body awareness require consistency, persistence, and patience
    2. Be mindful - I can tell you by experience that skipping ahead just takes longer
    3. Be OK with where you’re at today. Skills will be hard as hell for a VERY long time .

  • Ninja Squat Jump Progressions 🎉

Build lower body power and explosiveness with one of my favorite exercises: The ninja squat jump. These are advanced, so I’m going to show you ways you can progress up to the full movement and look like a badass!
.
I like to compare this to a kettlebell swing, its explosive and you are powering the movement from your hips.
1 Practice starting in a low squat and dropping one knee down at a time to make sure you can get up and down easily.
2 Grab a dumbbell in a kneeling position and throw your hips forward using your glutes. This will give you the same kind of feeling of explosiveness popping forward to your feet.
3 Drop the weight and go back to your knees. Send your hips back to your butt and explode one foot out in front of you.
4 Assist your ninja with a kettlebell, medicine ball, or dumbbell in front of you. Sit your hips back towards your heels and thrust forward with a little assistance.

This exercise takes a lot of tries, you’ll get it though I promise! It’s all in your head. You have to believe you can!

Mad isn’t it when you look back at old photos😅 to see such a difference🙊 (I mean I just can’t get over my hair😂 joking🤪)

Photos on the left were take in May 2018 and then photos on the right were taken today, so it works out around 1 year and 7months difference☺️ I don’t have a bum difference as that wasn’t my first aim but I’m proud of the peach 🍑☺️
.
Obviously I haven’t been this slim the whole time on this journey, Ive had meltdowns and put weight back on, then got focused again and lost it all so it has been an up and down journey but it’s been a good one to say the least🥰.
.
Now for me it’s all about maintaining the size I’m at, I might even when I get to my goal, try and build muscle but we shall see ☺️ I’m happy and content where I am at the moment but plans can always change!
.
If I can make these changes you can too! No journey is easy, but when you see the end result it’s worth every step🙌🏻❤️

I’m honestly so shocked at this 🙊 it’s amazed me that I honestly had the strength to push myself and get this far and I plan to get pushing and keep going❤️
