From INSECURE INTROVERT to CONFIDENT BUSINESS OWNER:
For the majority of my life, I hid behind the label of “introvert.” I was given labels like, “shy,” “quiet,” & “nonemotional.” I embraced my so-called introverted nature and never asked myself why I was “shy” but also loved hanging out with my friends as often as possible. This identity became my foundation for decision-making and just life-living.
But I wasn’t an introvert–I was INSECURE. I made decisions based out of fear of what others would think and fear of stepping on toes. I was afraid to assert my opinion in case someone would DISAGREE (lolwut). I felt like I didn’t have much value to provide the world so I succumbed to the “just go with the flow, no need to be proactive” way of living life.
•The Lord has given me the grace to live out the identity that HE has given me: a vessel with unique strengths & weaknesses with a purpose to glorify Him and to be used by Him in advancing His kingdom in this world!
•I’m freed from the chains of living in FEAR. God tells us that the ONLY thing we should fear in this world is Him (meaning: He alone is worthy of our reverence).
•Realizing that what I say and do matters - I have something unique and valuable to offer to the world because the Lord has given me unique strengths and weaknesses.
If you consider yourself an introvert, don’t let that define you. You are MUCH more than that & you DO have value to offer–speak up! I would encourage you to really dig deep–and I mean DEEP down and ask these questions:
•What in your life has influenced you to consider yourself as an introvert?
•Is this label you’ve given yourself stemming from insecurity?
•What is your foundation for life?
Instead of running to self-help and ego-boosting resources, think more deeply about the “why” behind what you believe to be true about yourself and the world.
Know that you’re not going to please everyone and that’s ok. We can’t live to please our culture that’s offended by EVERY. SINGLE. THING. that opposes their worldview.
Introverts, can you relate?
I seriously can’t believe my 2019 wedding season is over 😩 I’m sitting at my desk right now thinking, where did the time go? I swear just yesterday I was working a shitty office job and had no idea what I wanted to do for a career.
Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that I would be where I am today... just 21 years old with my own business, 50+ weddings under my belt as a lead shooter, planning elopements and shoots all over the world, forming friendships with the coolest creatives and clients there could be... so unreal.
My mom used to tell literally evvvveryone that I was going to grow up to be the activities director on a cruise ship because I loved to plan things and make lists as a kid. HAHA 😂 It’s funny to think how close she was to predicting my future! Though working on a cruise ship sounds pretty fun, I don’t see myself parting ways with the wedding + elopement industry any time soon 😉
I enjoyed every second of every wedding I shot this year and am so so SO DAMN THANKFUL to all my couples. From now until Christmas you’ll find me staring at my computer, editing until I go blind 🖤
#MCM post today - because I’m so thankful to have a partner as kind and caring as this guy!
No matter how busy life gets, or how crazy stressed out I may be, he stays by my side and helps me through the chaos.
Ever have those moments where you can’t imagine what life would be without that special someone? Don’t take them for granted and don’t forget to tell your significant other today how great they are.

@heyengel@valeriabnyc and I stopped by @museumofdreamspace in LA this week to capture the space. I was pretty blown away by the ambiance and decor. Hope they make it to SF one day. My fave rooms were this lantern room and the gold room. definitely a photographers paradise and hard to leave. I now want to recreate some of these lights in my house :) Tag a friend who like unique travel experiences.
This month has been so crazy, I’ve been just chasing my tail trying to keep up. But, after my 15 shoots this weekend (doing minis), I pretty much have three months off! Aside from the occasional snow shoot + workshop, I really have nothing on my calendar until late Feb! November is always the craziest month for me, and really, any photographer. Summer wedding deadlines all pile up, the weather changes so we schedule as much as possible, and I bury myself in my editing cave until I get everything done. This past week I’ve sent out multiple weddings and shoots, and I’m feeling confident that come the holidays, I’ll be completely done + able to be fully present with my family and babies! I’m also working on my blog and planning to catch up + share way more from this past year! It’s been a crazy season, but honestly, one of the best of my career. I’m loving everything I’m doing, the people I’m meeting, the photos I’m creating, and the connections I’m forming with so many clients and friends and other creatives. It’s been a balancing act, and one that I’m far from perfecting, but I’m feeling good about the progress and confident in my decision to slow down and take winter off!
If you haven't seen my stories yet, we had #Friendsgiving yesterday at my sister's place (swipe left for a peek!)

I mean I have to say my friends are all amazing though, #tbh . Tag your #friendsgiving invitees below!

My grandmother asked me about the last time I prayed. As the foyer clock ticked past six, my hands came together under the table. While the pattern of the floor tiles turned into a crucifix, I shuttered, keeping my hands clenched - palm to palm, eyes unstable. Even on a faithless journey, guilt brings a pain beneath my kneecaps. It’s never been about the belief or the blessing; just the image, the act, and the recap. 📸 @shotbylester #losangelesphotographer#californiaphotographer#shotbylester
