Don’t shoot me... I decorated for Christmas today. It was almost 50 freakishly warm degrees outside and I had pumpkins that were previously frozen to our porch. We tossed the pumpkins to the chickens, took down the fall decor and started to put the Christmas goods up! I seriously upped my decor game this year and Leo had so much fun!!! I will post some pics to my stories tomorrow after the rest of the final touches. •
🌲 Has anyone else gotten ahead on holiday decorating? 🌲 •
If you didn’t already know, I give music CD’s for Christmas. Why, You ask? Well, I just have never planned it right, to get those goodies and sweet treats made on time and even if I do, the now giant men and people that live here eat them before I can get it all delivered.
In 2000, we had a Scoville Progressive Family Christmas get-together where we travel from house to house enjoying different parts of a Christmas dinner. So fun right?!? It really was. My awesome brother Jeremy gathered everyone’s favorite Christmas music and made us a CD for us to listen to in our cars as we traveled from house to house. It was awesome! We don’t do either anymore. But around 2006 Jeff and our family were living in a tiny town called Susanville, Ca. Instead of passing out sugary treats, I decided to share my little family’s favorite Christmas songs with our new friends. It’s been a tradition since. I’ve lost any copies of the earlier years but I still have back to 2011. These past 2 years have been a struggle, (There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s REALLY REALLY small) so I really had no hope of doing a CD this year.
And I usually spend weeks and weeks in October listening to Christmas music to find the right songs and right playlist order. I only started last week. I already had all the songs. But it’s official. The playlist is ready. The CD’s were donated. There’s no fancy CD label or CD sleeve to be shared, but I’m so excited! It’s like the best Christmas present for me. I ❤️ music. It brings such joy to me and has become my therapy. Unfortunately, I will now stress and overthink and worry that everyone will not like my choice of songs. It’s who I am. Oh well.
If you want a CD or just the playlist of songs, message me and I’ll get it to you.
Unless you live far, you have to pay for your own postage. The postage is $2.90 each. I have Venmo. #katieisms#ilovemusic#musicismytherpy#christmasmusicplaying#christmascd#thebigneyfamilychristmascd2019
Just finished doing a 7 track recording for our church choir in preparation for our Christmas Program. This is so the choir can have extra practice at home. I decided to sing with the recoding for you. However, singing on Social Media is out of my comfort zone (would rather be behind a flute or piano)! I posted earlier today about doing something different to get different results. I’m not looking to be a pro-singer but I enjoy singing. I hope you enjoy this.
I’m so ready for Christmas that I covered a Christmas song! Any guesses what song it is???
Christmas starts Nov 30th for me!! Be on the look out for a sneak peek and a pre-save link in the near future!
Ever considered hosting karaoke in music class?
It’s the perfect way to involve even the most reluctant of performers to open their lungs and belt out some tunes?!
Why not start with some class karaoke, then split into groups and ask students to prepare their own song?
You could download a karaoke track from Spotify or Youtube onto CD, google drive or Spotify (depending on your setting's level of technological advancement...) and give groups 20 minutes to prepare a performance. .
We all have students who prefer a more rocky/pop/modern Christmas tune over the more traditional Christmas songs and carols.
Most of these songs are actually really quite complex to play and can increase your workload to take down to a level where students can learn them independently.
So, in the spirit of the festive season and “giving”, we’ve prepared quick and easy ideas on how to approach the trickier songs.
Check them out here on our latest blog. .
