  • In the least surprising statement of the day, connective tissue... connects tissues. What IS surprising though, is just how much it actually connects.

Skeletal muscle is wrapped in a series of connective tissue layers. The deepest wrapping is called Endomysium, which is a mixture of collagen and elastic fibers arranged very loosely around the muscle cell. Next comes the Perimysium, which wraps around and creates groups of muscle cells, called Fasciculi. Perimysium is also made of collagen and elastic fibers, but this time it’s far more densely packed than Endomysium. The third layer is called Epimysium, which wraps around the bundles of Fasciculi to create the actual muscle itself. Once again it’s made of densely arranged collagen and elastic fibers. Last, we have the Deep Fascia, which wraps and compartmentalizes groups of muscles, such as the hamstrings and quadriceps.

✨your sciatic nerve can run beneath, between or above this muscle depending on your body, which can cause sciatic pain if this muscle isn’t happy! Although true sciatica is actually pretty rare! This muscle can still refer pain into your low back or down your leg.
✨ your piriformis is a muscle that originates at the anterior aspect of the sacrum and inserts into the head of your femur! 🦴
✨ this muscle works to help laterally rotate the hip and abducting the leg when the hip is flexed. It can be confusing because it does different things depending on if the hip is flexed or if I’m extension.
✨here I have demonstrated an exercises and a stretch for the piriformis! 
Hold your stretch for as long as you can (you can also do this stretch laying on the floor)
Try them out!!😊

Inactivity is described by the Department of Health as a "silent killer". Evidence is emerging that sedentary behaviour, such as sitting or lying down for long periods, is bad for your health.

Physical activity guidelines for adults aged 19 to 64
Adults should do some type of physical activity every day. Any type of activity is good for you. The more you do the better.
Adults should:
* aim to be phyically active every day. Any activity is better than none, and more is better still
* do strengthening activities that work all the major muscles (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms) on at least 2 days a week
* do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week
* reduce time spent sitting or lying down....
