Here are breeded some of the future generations of giant tortoises. They are separated accordingly to their ages, so visitors can watch a timeline of their growth. As you already know, they get really big!
🌍 After crossing by land in a minivan the border with Tanzania, I got to the city of Arusha, from where most safaris start.
The first park I visited was the one in which I took this photo, the Tarangire Park. I had never seen these large mammals 🦁🦓🐘🦏🦒 at their natural habitat before. It was amazing! And the savanna makes for such a photographable landscape as it's not too dense but it still brings forward some nice elements for the photo composition. For me, a safari is among the best experiences a father can provide to his children. Less Disney, more Africa!
I had never used GPS tracks for hiking and it happens that they are simply amazing, even more so for routes so badly signalled as the ones in Paxos Island. So many nice coves along the way. 5h from Logos to Gaios and 7h from Logos to Lakka, including the many stops for swimming.
the terrible history of the "most communist" of all communist countries. that is the argument that Albania raised first to the USSR and later to China in order to isolate itself from the rest of the world. this is the entrance of one of the bunkers that the dictator Enver Hoxha built around Tirana. a man who terribly feared the attack of foreign forces under the context of the cold war
Pristina is one of the last European capitals that is still quite cheap. you can stay in a 4-star hotel for around 25 euros per night while a full breakfast like this costs less than 5 euros. but if there is one thing one gotta do before leaving the city is to pay a visit to one of the many coffee shops that there are all over town. every time when I saw a fancy place thinking that it was a restaurant, I looked closer to what customers were having and they were actually just drinking coffee (or tea). it is really a cultural thing. however, I must say that I was never lucky tasting coffee in the Balkans
the liberator of Kosovo, Bill Clinton. the country is thankful to his support for the intervention of NATO with bombing and troops which helped to put an end to the Yugoslavia war. in Pristina it is possible to find other hommages to his wife Hillary and also to the former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright
probably the newest cathedral I've ever got in. only 3 years-old. (Saint) Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia, to an Albanian family. Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia pay tribute to her. never thought I would see events that took place during my lifetime represented in stained glasses in a cathedral
