One day our goal is to take these kids on a service trip for six months and really have them experience life outside this world of privilege. In the meantime we are learning how that’s going to work through a home school hybrid that’s letting us take some pretty great field trips. My daughter is dyslexic. At 2, we found out she has Apraxia. We were told that she may have dyslexia but we wouldn’t know for a few years. Fast forward 5 years, and yes, she is dyslexic. .

At first I was heartbroken. Then I was liberated. Dyslexic kids tend to be very smart and they think completely different from their friends. I see this everyday with Kb. Every. Single. Day. She goes about things in a way that is creative, yet effective. She listens to conversations and remembers every detail and paints the picture in her head. .

Some days are harder than others. She will struggle with school work and it frustrates me. Then I have to step back and realize that this is way harder on her than me. I can’t expect a certain level of work from her yet. So we use little ways to help her grow. We go on an adventure everyday. I don’t post about them all, but we do something every day together. It’s a plus to homeschooling - We can get in the car and go. We are free to learn how we want and that style of education has been the best way to help her learn to live with dyslexia. .

We’re charging into the holiday season; conquering projects, preparing for finals, and enjoying field trips! Today 138 of our #CSIndy community went on a field trip including IRT’s “A Christmas Carol” (which all of our Dialectic students read this year, and which was one of our Reading Star books for Upper Grammar students) and the Indiana State Museum. Saanich Organics seeds are getting ready for a field trip! Tomorrow we are heading over to @almfarm, the home of @fcseeds (Full Circle Seeds). They have so kindly invited us to come visit and use Sucky, their vacuum seed cleaner. Using a vacuum cleaner is going to save us a lot of time in the cleaning process, and provide better quality seed in the end. We are feeling very grateful for this opportunity to learn from and connect with other seed growers in our community!
