I have in possession persimmons, pomegranates, and satsumas that was given to me. The pomegranates came off my parents own tree, that how I’ve been eating them for years, and the other two fruits was gifted by them.
*
Do I plant on growing these fruits myself? I hope you thought yes she’s going to. If you did, then you’re right! I planted a persimmon tree two years ago, and I purchased two Wonderful Pom pomegranate trees this year. I do grow a citrus, it’s a Meyer lemon plant, but I want some sort of orange. I thought I wanted a satsuma, but after being gifted some, I don’t think I want to grow one anymore, crazy I know. Though it was good & kind of sweet, I didn’t care much for how the membrane sticks to the actual fruit 🤷🏻♀️.
*
I need some recommendations for orange varieties, keep in mind that it will have to be grown in a container due to the cold winters here. I like my oranges sweet, seedless or little as possible amount of seeds, and easy to peel. Not too much to ask for, right 😜😂 Drop some ideas below & share your thoughts. 🧡
Summer shade options - something that needs to be considered as part of the design process for an outdoor area.⠀
⠀
So how do you go about this?⠀
⠀
Simple! ⠀
⠀
Think about possibly adding further functionality and what sort of aesthetics you have in mind.⠀
⠀
What do I mean by that?⠀
⠀
Well, consider whether you’d want to lushen it up with a beautiful climber. Maybe something colorful? Fragrant? Something just green? What about autumn colours?⠀
⠀
What sort of roofing appeals to you? What sort of shapes? Does it match your house?⠀
⠀
Are you going for an industrial look, modern, or classic? What materials appeal to you the most and how does that tie through the rest of the garden? ⠀
⠀
And yes, of course the big question of budget. It’s an expensive exercise so best to research and consider your options! ⠀
⠀
My suggestion though is think your shade options through when planning your garden as structures and hardscapes go hand in hand. What you want to avoid is “undoing” your garden and putting your shade structures and options in later.⠀
⠀
So in sum, research, go with your heart and plan slowly with baby steps (and budget in mind) to achieve what you really need and want! 💚

Food from the garden served in things I've made 💙💚 If I could spend all my days just growing and making I would be so happy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With this weird weather in Vic (unusually cold with sudden spikes of heat) our radishes all started going to seed without the root doing much of anything, so I made radish greens pesto with all the bolting coriander thrown in for good measure. Waste not, want not! I'm not good at following recipes, but the pesto has these ingredients on top of the greens: blanched almonds, raw cashews, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, Parmesan cheese and pink salt. I just put them all in the food processor and adjust for taste - it's hard to go wrong! But if you would like a recipe, just Google radish greens pesto and plenty come up 🙂

Always make sure your landscaper is licensed and insured! There are risks as a homeowner when hiring contractors. Licensed / insured landscapers are required to follow regulations and their insurance protects you from financial liability if any accidents happen on your property

My evening view, if I'm lucky enough to get home while it's still somewhat light out. The winter solstice cannot come fast enough... I am ready for some quality garden time!
Y'all know I HATE pruning! (With people AND plants!) But... it's a necessary part of healthy living. 🐛🐛🐛
Today's project was my gorgeous Bougainvillea. Just a few short months ago, she had gorgeous fuchsia blooms. Today? She looks a little sad. I've never had an opportunity to grow tropical plants, but after some research, I realized she needed some nutrients, a heavy soaking, and a whole lot of pruning.
🐛🐛🐛
It wasn't a fun process. Her branches were wild and covered with painful thorns. She fought me every step of the way. LOL. But, she finally yielded to the pruning shears.
🐛🐛🐛
Afterwards, we shared a cup of coffee!☕ LOL. Well, kind of. I drank the coffee and gave her the grounds. It is a perfectly paired relationship.😉
🐛🐛🐛
Now, she's sitting, sunning herself at a southern window, free of all the excess leaves and branches that were weighing her down. She can spend this winter season doing what is best for her... Getting a little R&R. 🐛🐛🐛
I've always told y'all that there's a lot of wisdom to be gleaned in the garden!

Unfortunately we won’t be doing this for a while now that stage 2 water restrictions are in place.
Although we have a water permit it is still important that we all do our bit to save as much water where we can.
Make sure you know all the details of exactly what we can and can’t do from now. Every drop counts. 💧 #waterwise#ourplanet

[Dec 2019] Next Project - Succulent Arrangement
.
.
We have a lot of variety of succulents around the house. They’re easy to maintain and propagate.
.
.
.
I’m always inspired by the succulent collection by these folks: @michikos_garden @jenssuccs @taysgarden3 .

.
I’m moving all of the succulents in to the greenhouse. Hopefully will have an update on the arrangements the next following weeks

So happy to be planting seeds again! 🌱 Looking ahead to 2020 and potting out the overwintering broad beans and peas. Fingers crossed we don't get snow this winter 🤞

11 December 2019 • A fine day of weather meant we were able to crack on with the apple and pear pruning in the orchard, it's been a couple of years trying to get them to be a more goblet shape after a few years of mismanagement and slowly they are getting back to where they should be.
This year we were devastated by winter moth, we have put on grease bands and that should in theory stop the problem, however I found some eggs nestled in one of the trees, so we may even consider an organic savona spray, something I'd rather not do but after the destruction that lead to a hundredth of the produce that we should have got, unfortunately I may have to go that way.
The greenhouse was glowing when i arrived this morning, allowing us to enjoy salad throughout the winter. A frost is due tonight so all the windows and doors of the green house have been left open to freeze the grape vine, helping kill off pests and most importantly ensuring the sap is down therefore allowing us to prune it in the wet tomorrow without any adverse effects to the vine.
Look at this Mantovana pumpkin a friend brought over! Once we have eaten it we’ll save the seeds and grow our own. Any recommendations on what we should make with it? .

• TUINKAS •

Our cucumber harvest hasn’t been great so far this year, so I’m happy to see these. 🥒
