KITCHEN GARDEN GOALS - I've been enjoying the east coast for a bit in Newport, Rhode Island and stumbled across this EPIC kitchen garden at - here are some things I noticed.
1. Nasturtium lined the ends of most beds, as well as the outer path of the garden itself. Aside from being a fantastic edible in its own right, nasturtiums are a great "trap crop" for pests like aphids.
2. The soil was extremely rich and loose, with either light or heavy chopped straw mulch depending on the crop. I saw almost no blemishes, pests, or disease in the ENTIRE garden. Healthy soil = healthy plants = better resistance to pests and disease.
3. Crops were spaced JUST tight enough to get a ton of yield out of each bed, but not too tight to encourage disease or poor growth. This is the sign of an experienced gardener! Everything in it's right place.
Left with some serious garden goals and plans for the future Epic Gardening HQ 😍

We are passionate about the wellbeing benefits that a relationship with growing can bring. This season our growing lifestyle has boosted us immensely when we have needed it most. We are forever grateful for that. But we also have a renewed passion for sharing the positive benefits that growing can bring.
A few weeks ago we posted about the optimism of growing. That spring will always follow winter. That the next spring will be the most amazing since last year. A new morning inevitably follows every dark night. .
For us the last few days have been magical. One day perhaps I will feel able to tell our story more fully. But today we feel elated, a weight removed from our shoulders. But we are so grateful for the growing that we do, that has been there for us through tricky months. The morning always comes. Spring is always a cause for celebration. But Spring 2020 will be more of a celebration than most. Our job isn’t a usual one. We feel the changing seasons acutely, we have a close relationship with the changing natural world as the year changes around us that governs our activity levels and working conditions. But we are forever grateful to it. And will repay that debt of gratitude by passionately sharing the benefits that growing can bring.
The Modern Cottage Garden is a style that can work in a small space - because my garden is so small, I made a ‘false border’ (left hand side of right hand pic) out of containers grouped together and with more than one plant growing in the same pot
Give it a go to turn a bare yard space into a lush garden without the need to smash up any concrete!
Do you know the difference between hardscape and softscape? 🤔
Any vegetation, from a garden to trees and individual plants, all are softscape additions to a yard. 🍃
Anything that isn’t living, such as a wall, steps, or a fountain ⛲️ are examples of hardscape elements.
Had a group of wonderful women last Saturday for our class, it was all about great team work and beautiful energy! Thank you @theatticonmyrtle for hosting our workshop, can’t wait to see the pictures @hyacenia

It looks like our trip to Hawaii is temporarily postponed until 2022 😭😭😭 so I’ve been reminiscing through photos of London to console myself 🤣 One of the things I loved was riding on the top deck of the double decker bus. Our driver drove surprisingly fast for such a big bus and more than once I grabbed the seat in front of me as we went careening around a corner. But it was fun! What’s your favorite way to travel when overseas? Walking is certainly the best way to see everything, but make sure you bring supportive shoes (unlike me who brought only flip flops for the entire two week trip....brilliant, I know!) 😂

Gearing up for my last wedding of the year this week! I’m really looking forward to designing for this wonderful couple ❤️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I’m sooo looking forward to celebrate the holidays with my family. It’s alway such a special time for all of us, and I will be ready to slow things down for the rest of the year. Winter is a purposefully quiet time for me, allowing me to not only spend time with my favorite people, but also to reflect and work on the back end of the business with focus and purpose.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wishing all of you a peaceful couple of weeks leading up to the holidays. Just like with planning a wedding, don’t sweat the small stuff during the holidays ❄️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
