We thought it was time for a little reintroduction! Meet The American’s Executive Chef, Andrew Longres.
Growing up in a small town north of Kansas City, Chef Andrew knew at an early age that he had a passion for food. From working at a world-renowned restaurant, The French Laundry, in California to running the kitchen at Bluestem in Kansas City, he developed quite the resume with his diverse and impressive background. In December of 2017, Chef Andrew returned to The American, where he worked as sous chef earlier in his career.
We are incredibly grateful to have Chef Andrew lead our kitchen and continue to impress us with his masterful cuisine!

I make these pretty much every other week because hi it’s amazing, & it takes like 5 minutes to microwave the next 3 days, top with an egg, bacon, and avocado. There’s my dinner for the next 3 days, folks. 👏🏾
(Also yeah just toss these bad boys in some olive oils, salt, and whatever seasoning you like, and bake at 425 degrees until nice and crispy)

I’m the first one to raise my hand and offer to drive. If I can control when and how I’m going to get somewhere, I’m totally here for that!
Added bonus if along the way I can stop at one of my favorite restaurants. Then the trip becomes even more of an adventure.
Here are some places I always make a detour for…
St. Louis - Salt & Smoke
The place is ALWAYS packed, so here’s what I do. Order a slab and DOUBLE ORDER of popovers to go. Do not skimp on the popovers!! There will be blood once you get home! Then I sit at the bar and get an order of Asian ribs to eat while I wait.

Kansas City- Q 39
Just order everything on the menu - a full slab, the brisket and definitely the BURNT ENDS.
If you’re soccer fans like us, make a weekend of it. #sportingkc ⚽️ plays not far from the restaurant. Their stadium complex is also in walking distance to an outlet mall and a casino. Everyone will be happy. And more importantly, no one will complain.
Tulsa - Butchers BBQ Stand
Ok. It’s really in Wellston between Tulsa and Oklahoma City, but it is SO worth the drive. Get there early cause it’s only open on the weekends and the good stuff sells out..
The stand is on Rt. 66, so when you’re done stuffing your face and licking the sauce off your fingers, don’t take the highway, cruise down Route 66 instead. It really is a lovely ride.
St. Louis - Sugarfire
Start with the hushpuppies, follow with an order of the Meat Daddy & finish off with a chocolate, peanut butter & bourbon shake.
Whatever you order, be sure to get the brisket - it’s like butta.

Two show in one week and I am here for it!! The theatre makes my heart so happy! The lights, stage, the actors; it is all so wonderful. Having season tickets at both @kcstarlight and @newtheatrekc we have met some of the nicest people and seen some of the greatest shows. Tonight’s show The Last Romance was a play that had me on an emotional roller coaster. It was happy, it was sad, it had opera, and an adorable chihuahua mix named Peaches. A well written play about companionship and finding it in an unlikely place. At the end of the play each night a dog is featured from a local shelter that is available for adoption and @newtheatrekc is paying $40 of that dogs adoption fee. Such a great way to support the local animal shelters!! Tonight’s dog was so cute but Guido would kill me if I brought someone else home 😢. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and I plan to mix things up. While @wholefoods carries all the quintessential items for that perfect, traditional Thanksgiving feast —it also allows for experimental cooks like myself to put a playful twist on it. My house is always full of leftovers following T-Day and they can get boring after the third, fourth (and even sixth) reheated plate. Can I get an amen? This year I’m whipping up the ultimate post T-Day sandwich, using a couple of standard leftovers and a few local KC-grown or made products: @greendirtfarm cheese, @farmtomktbread and apples grown + picked right from Kansas.
