Yesterday marked 1 year since we left Australia, and today I am calling 'Lisbon' my city. After 6 months of long trip around the world, I landed in Portugal on the 23rd of May with full of excitement for our new journey. 나는 혼자서 산책하는 것이 허용된 사람이다. 무엇보다 단순한 이 사실이 나를 벅차게 한다. 내가 아주 먼 곳까지 두 발로 걸어갔던 일들을 내 마음은 기억하고 있다. 살아 있다는 것은 두 발로 걷는 일이다. 두 발로 갈 수 있는 곳까지 갔다가 집으로 돌아오는 일이다. 거기에는 길이 있고, 날씨가 있고, 나에게 끊임없이 말을 거는 나의 마음이 있다. 나의 마음이 길을 나서지 못할 때는 나의 두 발도 꼼짝없이 묶여 있다. 안 좋은 일이 닥칠 때마다 마음을 돌보느라 힘이 들었다. 마음은 정말로 이상한 것이다, 나는 그것과 더불어 한순간에 어둠 속으로 추락한 다음 원래 내가 있던 곳으로는 절대로 다시 돌아가지 못한다. 마음은 내 얼굴을 활기에 차 있도록 만들기도 하고 쉽사리 걷히지 않는 그늘에 가두기도 한다. 나는 그늘진 얼굴로 궁핍한 차림을 하고서 구석에 앉아 있고 싶지 않았다. 그게 내가 오랫동안 꾸준히 지녀온 가장 속된 욕망이었다. This was definitely one of the most prominent features of the palace. Although I am not that gaga about mythological creatures, this one surely gave me the nightmares with its gauging eyes. The entrance of the palace is called, “allegorical gate to the creation of the world.” Arising from seaweeds, the Triton, half fish- half man, represents the aquatic and the terrestrial world. The king wanted a guarded entrance and have a very strong sense of literature embedded into the architecture, thus the design of the archway.

Pastel de natas, also known as Portuguese custard tart, are Portuguese egg tart pastries sprinkled with cinnamon. It is told that Portuguese nuns and monks, after using egg whites to starch their clothes, used the remaining yolks to make pastries. Lisbon in Portugal has many stores selling tasty pastel de natas.
