We can't believe the year has come and nearly gone! Before we look ahead, lets take a moment to gather and reflect on our 2019 with good friends and good food.
Join Slow Food Chicago at our Annual Meeting on December 16th 5:30-7:30 @localfoods to celebrate Terra Madre day, learn about our work this year, and meet other people who care about good, clean, and fair food. Special guests include Liz Morgan Stelk (Executive Director of @ilstewards) and Marlie Wilson (@chifoodpolicy + Good Food Purchasing Policy) who will give updates on the state of “good food” from their perspectives.
Light refreshments will be provided (including a @virtuecider welcome drink!), so grab a friend to taste, learn, and share with us!
This event is FREE, but please RSVP at the link in bio! Hope to see you there! ❤️

Cooking classes are the best opportunity to taste several dishes, to learn more about local ingredients, spices and their preparation and the experience you get is better than every souvenir you can buy!
The best way to learn more about the spices and local food in general is to do a cooking class 🥘
We did one in Chiang Mai @mamanoithaicookeryschool and it was a great experience.
You can choose which traditional dishes you want to prepare, then the class is going to the market together to buy all the ingredients.
The cooking school is located in a very green area outside the city! They grow their own vegs and herbs and the garden is so beautiful!
If you have experiences with cooking classes in Thailand, tell us your story - tag #barebackpackstories .
For us, food and traveling always go hand in hand! Exploring new countries is our passion, but you get to know a country at its best by tasting the traditional, local food! Every country has its own taste, delicious spices and individual ways to prepare the dishes. .
Have you tried local food during your journeys? You have a favorite?

Cha ca- grilled fish with fish sauce and shrimp paste, rice noodles, scallions, fennel, chili, peanuts. It was literally the only dish this restaurant makes. They had it on the table in less then 5 mins cooking on the table top stove. It was fresh and delightful with heat from chili and fresh thai basil. The peanuts added a nice earthy/fatty balance to the clean dish. It was absolutely amazing. Next is a hot sweet soup flavored of ginger with 2 types of rice dumplings that have been cooked in the sweet liquid. They were filled with different types of bean paste. The liquid was light but sweet and packed full of ginger flavor was a nice dessert. #visitvietnam#visithanoi#blackchef#chef#cheflife#mixedbaby#mixedchild#travelingchef#asiafoodtour#rasta#rastafari#foodexploration#nomad#localculture#localfoods

My 🕺bf is the king of quickies. How do I get him to slow his spiedie a** down?
Okay, don't answer that😏. Am being rhetorical. It's all in good fun to shine some 💡light on the spiedie, a Binghamton, NY specialty that's become popular all over the central part of the state. It traditionally consists of marinated, skewered cubes of meat, char-grilled until caramelized on the outside and juicy inside, served up in a hoagie roll or slice of fresh 🇮🇹Eyetalian bread.
Now this here is a Greek-style 🍗chicken spiedie, which explains why it's wrapped in 🇬🇷Greek pita and topped with feta 'n tzatziki. Not surprisingly, it reminded me a lot of souvlaki. Either way, it was the perfect 🚙road trip sustenance en route home from the Finger Lakes recently. You see, I have a thing for trying locally beloved eats, so it checked off that box. Plus it tasted pretty, pretty, pretty good. So there's that, too.
I 🤔guess up until recently, one would probably have used the word 'ramshackle' to describe this eatery's aesthetics. My travel peeps and I pulled up expecting just that. We were pleasantly 😯surprised to encounter a spiffy new space just across the way from the original, now-shuttered location.
Should I ever find myself in the Binghamton area again, I'd 👍definitely return. Though I hope I don't get pulled over for spiedie-ng.😉😉😉
I love you so machi! ❣️
The Cheese cream tieguanyin latte topped with a mochi bar is sooo good and unique! The mochi are warm and moist, perfect to pair with the soybean powder. Now I know why Jay Chou loves this place! 🤣
