“ Every day is a chance to live your goals. What does goal stand for? Get Out And Live.” @omekongo ✨
🏃🏼♀️PLAN - Easy run 45 minutes.
1 - 11:00.
2 - 9:39
3 - 8:49
0.70 - 9:15
Did the first mile with Jaz then dropped her off and @this.dave.runs joined me for the other 3 miles. He runs a bit faster than Jaz so the legs had to switch the pace up a bit. Can’t say they liked it 🦵🏼 ❌😂 but really pleased as it’s been a good few months since I’ve pushed anything passed easy!! .
Followed on with nearly 6 miles of walking the streets of Cheltenham Christmas shopping 🛍 🎁 🎄 🎅🏻 😫 These legs are well and truly DONE 🤣🙌🏻
Happy Monday guys ✌🏻
What is your threshold for shorts in the winter? I used to say anything below 30° warrants tights, but I’ve changed my tune a tad. It was 21° (real feel of 18-19° with the wind) at the start of the Indy Marathon and shorts felt just fine. I ran in shorts the other morning at about 25° and that also felt fine. For me, if I’m warm up top my legs are ok. Now, wind changes things. The wind is a complete game changer for me & I’ll have to break out the tights.
Each winter I have to re-learn how many layers/accessories etc I need for the winter temps. You’ll overdress one morning & the be quickly reminded why you only wear that particular top when the temps are in the teens...or your hands will freeze & you’ll remember how cold it needs to be for your mittens. By time I get it all nailed down spring will roll in!🤦🏻♀️ Typically I’ll do shorts, a tight base layer top tucked in, another thin top on top of that, ear warmer & gloves. And, I have a stock of Hot Hands ready to go for when it gets real cold!
What are your go-to items for winter running?
#transformationtuesday and time for me to look back on where I have come from and where I am going to.....
As we head into December and the month that for the past few years for me is the start of my spring marathon training this autumn with my injury I’ve had to look back and address the patterns I’ve fallen into. For the last two years I’ve got into a bit of a rut completing a spring marathon, summer ultra and then flunked on the autumn marathon so this year due to my injury & reassessing these patterns I’m switching it up and this winter I’m going back to basic - track, speed work, 5k,10k and maybe..... even a half marathon or two in our club race series and lots of strength training & yoga carrying on with #operationrebuild before I knuckle down to summer marathon training instead of summer ultras. I’m am looking forward to the change and I’m really excited for the plans and dreams I hope to fulfill in 2020 with a stronger me because I’m in this for the long run 🤣 and want so much more than to be stuck on this injury bench next summer due to not addressing my weaknesses and building a stronger base with the help of @pmgcoaching.
It will be strange not training for a spring marathon & I’ll miss the long run Sunday’s that I’ve enjoyed so much but I really feel this year with my injury that this is the best route for me!
Thank you for all your never ending support and kind words in what for me November was the toughest month so far but I’ve started December on a much better footing, two runs in two days 🕺🏼🕺🏼 excited for my 2020 goals 😘❤️
Winter is here, the day is short and its dark at 5PM here in the #pacificnorthwest . The cold wet weather is fresh and one have to be really motivated to run in this condition. Thankfully i found that will and courage to complete my tempo run tonight :)
I have been cutting down on mileage as i go into running off season. I am running 15-20 miles weekly to keep my base. I have been spending more time in the gym (3x weekly) for #weightlifting#weighttraining in hope to improve my #core .
I can definitely feel my running performance decline as my stamina has gone down but i am not sweating it and am trying to enjoy #gym#gymlife more nowadays.
Snuggles with my squishy is a perfect way to relax after my run today! ❤
I didn't get my 5K in this last weekend & although it bummed me out last night I ended up getting it done today!! This run I honestly felt more like my running self than any of the others. I just let my body run itself!
Today's run also allowed me time to process some things as I near next week when my husband goes back to work. Let's just say I have some anxiety over it. I forgot how helpful runs can be for my mental well being. Sure it is my me time, mommy time or whatever you want to call it, but it has always been a time where I have a clear head to think & process stuff that is currently nagging at me. This was that run & I even ended up coming home & apologizing to my husband for something he didn't even remember happening. 😂
Self-care. I feel like not enough people give themselves that time for it. I fear finding it for myself once hubby goes back to work, but for mental health it is extremely important. As I go through this postpartum journey I am blessed to know I have such an awesome supportive system to make sure I get that time.
I know I can't be the mom my kids need or the wife my husband needs if I don't take care of myself and put myself first at times. Today's run reminded me of that because unless I actually step outside finding quiet time for myself in my house isn't possible. 😂
I’m traveling for work and hit the hotel gym tonight for 2 easy miles on the treadmill (aka Satans Sidewalk 😑) + a quick #PWR Upper Body. Proud I squeezed this in because I came up with every excuse in the book. I think the key is saying your excuses out loud as you put on your workout clothes - by the time you realize how paradoxical you sound you’re already dressed so you might as well go 🤷🏼♀️ 😂 #solidgoldworkouttipsfromcaitlin
2018 Eugene Marathon
I remember making it 19 miles at a good pace before coming to a dead stop. I always remember that sick feeling in the legs when they're cooked nothing can change the facts of that. I had to walk a little and regroup. I saw it through and finished. I learned a valuable marathon lesson. The marathon is a cold hearted son of a bitch. You can't fake fitness. Put in the work and show up ready.
*** New Bigfoot Trail Running TShirt
Bigfoot running. You can imagine it. Hell, Bigfoot probably invented trail running and was certainly running down the trails of the upper Northwest for decades before it was in vogue. He is a true trail blazer (see what I did there!!). Anyway, to commemorate the significant achievements of Bigfoot running and the birth of trail running, we've created this Tshirt. Get one in Bio!
One full day in Nelson before we head to the Abel Tasman great walk for a few days. Took us all of 5 minutes to sniff out some trails! .
Seriously good tracks for MTB and running, curling around the hills following an old railway to a copper mine. .
Inspired. Motivated. Determined. 🌟
Congratulations to everyone who ran @runsra_cim yesterday! I’m so inspired by your stories of determination, grit & success during the race.
This forced off period has been eye opening & I’ve been evaluating what’s next.
Watching from the outside yesterday only confirmed what I’ve been feeling in my heart: There’s unfinished business. 🤗
I’m not sure when that next marathon will be just yet but having such a definite feeling just makes me want it that much more. 🖤
Garmin's new hydration stats are blowing my damn mind 🤯 Did you know the average person loses 800-2000ml of sweat per hour of exercise? 😵💦
As well as water, we are losing essential electrolytes through sweat: sodium, chloride, magnesium, calcium & potassium.
Given the temps🌡 we are hitting here in Aus 🇭🇲 this summer ☀️ we are alllll gonna be sweating!
Electrolytes have tonnes of important functions. They:
➡️ Maintain fluid balance in the body 💦
➡️ Balance blood acidity and pressure ⚖
➡️ Regulate muscle function by generating electricity⚡
➡️ Help rebuild damaged tissue
For the last couple of months I've been drinking @enerc_ausnz Sport Electrolyte Drink mix before/after my long runs and workouts. The biggest difference I've seen since starting is that I no longer get headaches 🧠 after hard runs 🤗 and I have less muscle soreness.
Do you drink electrolytes or replenish purely through food? 🍌🥑🍓
Smoke over Sydney again today. Unfortunately a morning sky that has become all too familiar for us over the last few weeks #nswbushfires

#medalmonday with a twist. My 3rd place award for our clubs champions league. Worked my arse off for this completing 12 races out of 20 where your best 10 count. Whereas @lindsey.goodrum pisses off to be a holiday rep half the year, does 9 races and comes 3rd lady. Not on lady!!! 😂

Dark forest trail runs for the win. Just you and nature pounding out the miles on the trail. Who else enjoys their solo trail runs?

WHAT DO YOU RUN FOR?
Is it because you know if you can break through a wall every day, a glass ceiling doesn’t stand a chance?
Are you running because on the course you can sweat until your lips are salty, and nobody will tell you you should smile more.
Or for your friends? The ones who signed you up. Telling you it wouldn’t be easy, but it would be worth it.
Or for the 20,000 new ones you will make come race day? Running besides you. In silence and in solidarity. Towards a better them. And a better you. And a better LA for every girl who follows in your footsteps.
We know as women in this city there are a million reasons to run. Whatever the reason, this is OUR race. #sportchangeseverything#girLAB#nikeLA#LA131

Great to get back out on the trails tonight thank you @buckley_adam_13 for joining me and luckily for me he started his watch as I forgot, a cracking night clear skies cold but not freezing, was nice to show Adam a few new trails.
Hello Monday! Beautiful morning in south Florida so took advantage of a break between work and got in 4 miles outside in the December weather. Brynn was home sick so the lovely @the4bz got her miles in on the treadmill which will be my personal torture device tomorrow as I will be in Holland, MI! Slightly different weather there.

Hello from #stuttgart on the 9th day of #everybodysperfect . I'm on a business trip, left the house today before 6am, returned to the hotel after 8pm, but as I'd brought my running shoes, I went on a run. I put on a christmas playlist and passed the christmas market. A truly #merryrun 🎅
(Sorry, not answering any messages or comments today, as I'm very tired. Going straight to bed afterwards)
Excellent podcast from Dr. Andrew Flatt with Jason Moore on @EliteHRV.
If you are beating your head against a wall trying to figure out what the trends of your athletes HRV might be telling you, give this a listen..... then go read anything you can that Dr. Flatt has written.
#TrackTuesday although mine was more like #RecoveryTuesday . No speed sesh for me this morning, just a nice recovery run cutting laps around the track (and of course rocking my @gc50runfestival singlet ❤️💁♀️)
