  • With the weather being so finicky in our city our li’l ones are always prone to getting the sniffles, cough or a slight temperature. The first thing that runs through my mind is, what should I feed my child now? More importantly, is my li’l one going to accept any of the food I make.

Sometimes, I find myself scrambling through ingredients that are good whilst they’re sick. The tantrums and the rejections towards food just drives me up the wall.
That’s when I sat down and made a list of food that works for me. .

  • Twinning with my babe in our @babytula shoes!  Layla has been asking to twin with mommy almost every day now and she was so happy when she saw our matching shoes! #mommyandmestyle #tulakid
-
On another note, we got Layla her own iPod and we try to find fun, educational games for her to play.  We found @sagomini games and they honestly are the best games!  She loves playing them and I love playing them with her.  They are open ended (there's no end goal or "winning") and just so much fun.  If you are looking for a great app for your kids, you should check it out! (not sponsored, just wanted to share the love!) The little toy bird she's holding is a character from @sagomini that she just loves.  I love buying her the toys from the line as well as it's all about imaginative play.  Just a toy recommendation from a mom, now tell me what toys/apps are your kids loving?  I would love to try out something new! #theishgirls

  • Give your little Girl the right Shoes, and she can conquer the World.👟
..
Christmas Shopping went early for us! I got so excited the instant I learned from my #MommyBFFs that Stride Rite is having a Sale! The first shoes Leia ever wore and will always love having on her feet is from this brand. Their sizes and styles vary from newborns up to kids, for both girls and boys. They have several styles that are very flexible, light and super comfy that toddlers like Leia will enjoy even when running. Did you know that she also wears one at home?!😄
..
Tip : All @strideriteph items are on 50% off (including Saucony, Keds and Sperry brands) but their stocks are very limited since they only have 1pair per size. So head over soon to @smmegamall and @robinsonsmagnolia branches only to avail of the Sale - lasts only until next week.👍🏼

  • Day 1. “These are a few of my favorite things.” In honor of my sister being pregs 🤰🏻and asking me what MUST-HAVES she needs. I thought each day this week I would post items that I would buy all over again. #1...SLEEP SACK by @nestedbean. HOLY WOW THIS SLEEP SACK SAVES LIVES!!! It has a weight on the chest to calm baby. We we’re struggling to get him to sleep through the night and I was going a little cuckoo. Finally purchased this thing and within the first night of him wearing it he slept the whole night!!!! Hallelujah. I will recommend this sleep sack to any sleep deprived parent. We are now going on two weeks and every night (NO JOKE) he’s sleeps through the night with this thing. My husband just said “now you’ve done it”. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Watch him wake up tonite. I also love his mobile hanging here from target. It’s so nice when I just have to put him down for a second that he has something to look up at and he loves watching it go round and round with music. #mommymusthaves #mommyrecommended #firsttimemom #baby #babyboy #boyroom #gunnisonwest #crib #sleepsack #nestedbean #cribmobile

  • My go to breakfast! Easy to make egg bites! 🍳🥚🥓🧀🥬...
When I say easy, I mean easy! As a busy mom, I love easy to follow recipes. Seriously crack some eggs throw in some ingredients and throw them in the oven ha! I’ve been making these grab and go egg bites for a while now. I have them ready in the fridge, I heat them up 10 seconds in the microwave and off I go! .
There are tons of recipes online. I usually stick to the same ingredients. This is a mama type recipe below ha!
.
6 eggs.
Handful of crumbled bacon.
Handful of chopped spinach.
Handful of shredded cheddar cheese or feta.
Pinch of salt and pepper... add any spices you like! Make it your own!
Spray a muffin pan of 12 with cooking spray. Fill them up, throw them in the oven at 350f for 18-20 min! Cool and put them in a sealed container in the fridge! Mine last about a week! Depending if I have 1 or 2 a day! Yummy!! .
Have you tried making these yet! What are your favorite ingredients to add!?

  • My Uber rating is a 4.34, even though I am a courteous, clean and considerate traveller
⁣
One never talks about the inconveniences of having a toddler who is not yet potty trained; and the multiple areas of your life an ill timed poo can affect. There should be a word to describe the frustration of a mother who walks down the stairs with multiple bags, clutching at her clean-bottomed child; only to reach the car to get a whiff of the painfully familiar malodour that is baby poo 😬
⁣
My mum had Harsh and I fully potty trained by the time we turned 1. Without the conveniences of disposable diapers and washing machines, the generations before us were resourceful in redirecting waste; they practised the art of 'Elimination Communication' - where parents use timing, cues and intuition to start potty training an infant as young as 4-6 months. And as much as my mum tried supporting me to do the same, I was too caught up in my own pelvic floor wellness and bowel movements post delivery to want to focus on someone else’s 🙂 ⁣
⁣
I also knew that I instinctively favoured the ‘readiness approach’ - that is waiting until your child is developmentally more independent. So after trying half heartedly a couple of times (and failing of course), I decided to take things slow. If Mira wasn't potty trained at 2, it was ok, as long as we were talking about it and exposing her to how normal it all was. What better way to do that than - Books!⁣
⁣
Our first book toilet centric book was ‘Everyone Poops’ by Japanese author, Taro Gomi. His brilliant pictographic style and simple prose educates readers about the realities of pooping - especially the fact that everyone does it; every day. And so for a book that takes 95 seconds to read, you’ll probably spend the rest of your day ruminating over the fairly graphic but not precisely detailed versions of animals and humans eating and pooping. It is comprehensive enough for toddlers to feel inspired to poo and yet vague enough for older children to start questioning the digestive system. A mixture of light hearted silliness and matter of fact details, this book is a solid winner! Mira LOVES this book!

Is she potty trained? Post to follow 🙂

  • Being a believer in the idea of natural, open ended play, and having focused all my research prowess and energy on books; I have rarely found myself longing to buy a toy for Mira. For let's face it, we as parents, are the ones with itchy hands to buy novelties for our kids. I have seldom entered a toy shop, and never plan to. But this is not to say that Mira is any worse off for it; for she has enough doting aunts (looking at you @rriddhittalwalkar and @ritikakataria) who spoil her. ⁣
⁣
However I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to *invest* in a very life like range of animal figures. Not soft toys and not those plastic cheap-y looking animal models, but animals that were anatomically true to themselves; ones that Mira could learn from and interact with.⁣
⁣
I basically wanted National Geographic in my living room without the gore. And luckily for me, I soon chanced upon @schleichofficial , a German brand with the kind of attention to detail I was looking for! These toy figures are individually hand painted and so wonderful to hold and look at. What is more marvellous is that you can pick up the Schleich Pig, count that it has 14 teats; only to reconfirm that pigs on an average do in fact have 12-14 teats! The animals are realistic to the point of being scary in the case of a wolf, or absolutely timid and sheepish looking like a.. sheep! ⁣
⁣
I first bought the most interesting looking and wonderfully detailed Octopus. From it’s mantle to the two rows of ring-shaped suction cups on the underside of it’s 8 long tentacles, this Octopus is a sensory delight for its grainy texture and imperfect colouring. The surface design and high quality craftsmanship ensures you engage with the products not only with your eyes, but your hands as well. ⁣
⁣
I am a very hesitant shopper, but once I am convinced of a brand and it’s products, I become rather obsessive. So in the course of a month, I had soon amassed 31 Schleich animal figures - from the farm world (cow, horse, pig, sheep) the wild world (giraffe, bear, elephant and even an oryx thanks to a much loved book - Giraffes Cant Dance) and the fantasy world (unicorn) ⁣
⁣
Best purchase EVER. *Continued in Comments*

  • I am eternally grateful to the mother who introduced me to the @babybjorn Baby Carrier
⁣
I’d been using my Baby K’tan wrap for our daily strolls and general getting around, but I couldn't share carrying the load (quite literally) with Rohan, and for me, that was the need of the hour! I felt very touched out (all new / breastfeeding mothers will understand!); and so the minute we witnessed the ease of wearing and adjusting the Baby Bjorn to any body type, it was a no brainer. ⁣
⁣
The day we bought the Baby Bjorn (at around 7 months) we were out of the house 24/7. ⁣
⁣
Rohan and Mira got into a fixed schedule of baby wearing walks every evening and I was able to go on some very impulsive solo holidays thanks to this carrier - From Pune to Chandigarh and even Amritsar! Swipe to see! Given my weak shoulders, the weight distribution was ideal, and I was able to socialise again; for while everyone else had their nannies, I couldn’t have done it without the Bjorn. ⁣
⁣
The sense of independence a carrier offers is invaluable; in a way no stroller ever can. Baby and you become one in a snuggly, happy kind of way; and having your hands free to attend to every other task is empowering. ⁣
⁣
You can choose from a couple of varieties of the Baby Bjorn, but given Mumbai’s humid climate, I’d recommend the Baby One Air, which is made of an airy and cool mesh fabric that dries rapidly. ⁣
⁣
Here are some quick facts - Age Group - New Born to 3 Years ⁣ Weight / Length - Min. 3.5kg/53cm. Max. 15kg/100cm.⁣
⁣
We stopped using the carrier when Mira turned around 1.5 years old because I wanted to instil the habit of walking; I also started finding her quite heavy. The last thing I wanted to become is a mama kangaroo! My timing seemed to be on point, as she rarely ever asks to be carried. And so it goes without saying, that this baby carrier was one of my most utilitarian baby purchases yet!⁣

  • This past weekend, I attended @jalilahsartstudio Summer Series Art in the Park.
.
.🌟
The weather, the activities, the mommies.....Everything was a whole vibe💞 Mommies chatted, kids painted, colored, and glittered. The Sun was shining....Everything in its entirety was just dope💓
.
.🌈
@jalilahsartstudio demonstrated different arts and crafts for the kids to do, which Tori and my niece thoroughly enjoyed. .
.🌟
The idea in itself is what me and other mommies appreciated; a hands on play date with kiddies, while still being able to chat and meet other mommies, all the while Jalilah had the kids entertained. .
.🌈
Tori took such a set on her, she is most definitely a baby whisper, how the kids just gravitate towards her🥰 Her spirit and kindness is a breath of fresh air.
.
.
I'm looking forward to her hosting more of these events, because like alot of us mommies, all we want is to find things to do with our kids. Things that benefits them and keeps us sane aswell.
.
.
Job well done @jalilahsartstudio ! Cant wait to see what's in store next! 💖 Hands down a Mommy Recommended Event!

  • We all have that one thing we are passionate about. Some things are relatable, and others plain bizarre. ⁣
⁣
Mira's great love and passion is WATER.⁣
Or perhaps her water bottle?⁣
I don't know, but I wish I did. ⁣
⁣
She walks around, sleeps and even tries to bathe while holding this pink coloured @munchkininc Miracle 360 Cup. ⁣
The only time she's ever had a meltdown is when we forget the Cup or her Teddy. For her main priority in life is to be well hydrated, and damn the person who comes in her way.⁣
⁣
You're probably too intrigued by that word - ‘Miracle’⁣ Well, what else can you call a cup that is spill - proof and lets you drink from anywhere around the rim - a complete 360 degree experience!⁣
⁣
At first glance, friends and family are always baffled with how the mechanism of this cup works; there are no straws, spouts or pieces, which makes it low maintenance, easy to clean and the closest baby friendly cup I could find next to an normal cup. Plus, it is dentist recommended as it supports dental hygiene and normal muscle development in a child’s mouth, thanks to the no straws etc. (Didn't care about that part, but maybe some of you do?) ⁣
⁣
Things were going great. ⁣
Mira and the cup were one, and I never had to worry about her being constipated. ⁣
Till one fine day, she figured out how to pull up the suction sort of top, and empty out all the water. ⁣
⁣
I would have been upset, but I had no reason to be. For it turns out, the Miracle Cup had done its job; Mira now knows how to drink from a normal cup - almost spill free.⁣
⁣
And finally I had my answer - her passion is water and not the cup. Yay! ⁣

  • I had a major ‘a-ha’ moment a couple of days ago. ⁣
⁣
While cleaning Mira’s wardrobe, I was congratulating myself for being conservative with the amount I shop for her. All her current clothes fit into a single drawer. Not bad, I thought; for we live in the age of absolutely adorable fast fashion for kids. The temptation is real. ⁣
⁣
But then on closer inspection, I realised that even though I had a limited number of clothes, most of them were composed of synthetic fibres. And synthetic fibres = Plastic. ⁣
⁣
WHAT?! How had I not put this together before? ⁣
⁣
A quick online search later, I come face to face with some rather startling facts -⁣
⁣
- Polyester, Nylon, Acrylic and all other synthetic fibres are forms of plastic and account for 60% of the materials that make up our clothes worldwide⁣
- Every time we wash these materials, they shed millions of plastic microfibres. ⁣
- Microfibres are a type of micro plastic – particles of plastic below 5mm in size and thinner than a human hair. ⁣
- These threads are so small, they drain out of our washing machines and pass straight through wastewater treatment plants into the sea, and there they persist indefinitely, contaminating oceans, getting ingested by animals and, indirectly, by humans⁣
- One washing load of clothes could be shedding up to 17 million tiny plastic fibres.⁣
- Microfibres have been found in air, rivers, soil, drinking water, beer and table salt.⁣
⁣
I won’t bore you with more facts. Life is hard enough without having to stop shopping at Zara. ⁣But here are a couple of solutions - ⁣
⁣
- Buy natural organic fabrics as much as possible. These are more expensive, which means you’ll likely buy less – but that’s a good thing, too.⁣
- Hemp and Linen are the most sustainable materials, followed by cotton and semi synthetic fabrics like Lenzing Modal, Tencel and Bamboo⁣
- Wash your clothes less frequently, and on a shorter wash cycle. Also ensure that your washing machine load is full to cause lesser friction= lesser microfibres lost + great for the longevity of your clothing⁣
⁣
So I’ve realised that instead of shopping less, I should first aim to shop sensibly ⁣

  • I had a major ‘a-ha’ moment a couple of days ago. ⁣

While cleaning Mira’s wardrobe, I was congratulating myself for being conservative with the amount I shop for her. All her current clothes fit into a single drawer. Not bad, I thought; for we live in the age of absolutely adorable fast fashion for kids. The temptation is real. ⁣

But then on closer inspection, I realised that even though I had a limited number of clothes, most of them were composed of synthetic fibres. And synthetic fibres = Plastic. ⁣

WHAT?! How had I not put this together before? ⁣

A quick online search later, I come face to face with some rather startling facts -⁣

    - Polyester, Nylon, Acrylic and all other synthetic fibres are forms of plastic and account for 60% of the materials that make up our clothes worldwide⁣
    - Every time we wash these materials, they shed millions of plastic microfibres. ⁣

  • At 18 Months; 3 Weeks - Shh! We Have A Plan - Chris Haughton ⁣
⁣
Remember the Aesop's Fables' story about the North Wind and the Sun? ⁣
To determine who is stronger, they compete to see who can make a weary traveller take off his cloak first. One would assume the ‘gentle’ wind to be the obvious winner, where as in fact it is the ‘fierce’ sun that gets the traveler to relinquish his coat first.⁣
As sexy as all of this sounds, the moral of the story is about how Kindness trumps Force; always. ⁣
⁣
Shhhh We Have a Plan does a stellar job of simplifying and modernising the same lesson; but with the humour and creative capacities of a mastermind!⁣
⁣
This is not a book - this is more than a book - this is theatre for children.⁣
⁣
I can talk about how the characters are endearing and relatable, the illustrations intriguing and spellbinding and the plot multifaceted in its takeaways, but I won’t.⁣
⁣
Instead I’ll focus on the subtle nuances of the book - details that you can appreciate after 157+ readings. ⁣
⁣
- The contrast of the dark blue figures in the dim blue world (human world) to the bright and vibrant birds! (natural world)⁣
- The little guy is the odd man out. He's thinking for himself and is successful because he didn't go with the crowd! Being 1 of many is not nearly as empowering as someone who thinks for themselves. ⁣
- Haughton uses the juxtaposition of the 3 older characters against the youngest character. As typical with earlier generations, the older characters mock the little guy for being immature and inexperienced, where as the little guy had the best plan⁣
- The 3 older characters embody the greed and the destructive nature of adults; however in contrast, the youngest is generous and patient. - One of the main patterns through the story is the bird that flies to the next page, guiding us and the characters through the adventure
- The concluding pages, with the older characters going back to their original failed plan, show us that some people just never learn!⁣ Leave them be!
⁣
Mira and I LOVE this book. We run around ‘Ssshhhh-ing’ so definitely not a bed time read!
Buy this NOW. Thank me LATER!

  • I love Music and Mira loves Music.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Hang out with us for a day, and you’ll get acquainted with a whole new playlist of songs - varied in their tone and sentiment. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
One of our key ideologies at home is - Why speak when you can sing? That’s the kind of bizarre stuff you can think and even implement, only when hanging out with a baby! ⁣⁣⁣
We mash up the lyrics of nursery rhymes and songs to communicate with each other about literally anything - from ‘Go to Sleep’, to ‘I can’t find my owl’ to ‘Where is Kitluku Cat’ ⁣⁣⁣
⁣
We have a great laugh when we make up funny lyrics, and Mira loves surprising me with new words and new sentences, often even set to a new tune. She also spends upwards of 30 minutes a day singing, whilst making her animals dance around in circles. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
How did we get to this wonderful place? Well, we’ve actively listened to music every day since she’s been born. Not because some parenting/baby articles told us to; but because like I said - I love music! ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
And so I’d like nothing more than to share our baby song recommendations with you! I’m starting off this week with a whole album, lovingly entitled ‘Quiet Time - Songs for a Pause, a Cuddle or a Nap’ by Raffi (Find it on @spotify) This is our favourite Driving in the Car album. It really lends to some quality introspection. ⁣
Here is a picture of Mira enjoying her solitude, as she hummed away to Fais Dodo 🥰

  • I haven't bought Mira many toys.
.
.
However the select few toys I have bought for her have been 👩‍🔬
- thoroughly researched,
- have been purchased to fulfill a specific need
-  are always for long term use, and are
- as compact as possible; for storage purposes
.
.
In the coming weeks, I shall be cataloguing my top entertainment buys!
Bookmark them for if you ever have to buy a baby a gift - The parents will be surprised by your insightful gifting choices 😂
.
.
Fridge Magnets! .
.
My Need -  Keep Mira entertained long enough (in one space) for me to get some chopping and cooking done. .
.
To that aim - I bought an awesome interactive gear based fridge magnet set from Tomy, when Mira was 8 months old and in the crawling phase.
.
Yes, the box says 3+ .
I do believe the most appropriate age for this would possibly be between 2.5 - 3yrs, but we’ve had our fun and served our purpose till now too!
.
.
The Tomy Gearation Set is so enjoyable - even for me! It includes 6 colourful, turning, interlocking gears. The biggest gear is battery operated and has an on/off switch to start the main gear. You can arrange and rearrange the other gears around the turning one, and watch your set up come alive! .
.
.
Pro’s
- Solid Magnetic Backing. These don't fall off..
- Quality Construction and Durable - We’ve dropped these A LOT - no damage + The stickers haven't peeled off either.
- Gears rotate in either direction depending on which way you push the On switch - The Gears provide a variety of sights and sounds to entertain - like a rotating oblong washer and rotating eyes, as well as a noise making ticker.
- There is no incorrect way to set up the gears - It’s like a puzzle with no wrong answers!
.
.
I’d seen them at @hamleys_india a while ago - Rs. 1699. But if you have someone coming down from the US, they usually retail at substantially lesser. .
.
. *As usual, I’ve written too much, so please check the comments if you’ve decided to purchase the product*

  • It’s Family Friday here at S.A.Q! Each Friday we will feature one family and an outing they enjoyed with their children and other family members! Thank you @4real_ish for being our first Family Friday feature! ✨
#repost • @4real_ish So my friend @nainai721 has been telling me about this place for years. 💅🏽
But I havent had kids for that many years,😫 now that I'm constantly looking for places kid friendly and with a great ambiance I decided to check out Pops Seafood Shack, and let me tell yall, I loved it!!!
🌼
If your an outdoor, sunny vibe kinda person, this place is for you. Especially my Long Islanders, and Queens people! A little hidden gem on the water's. 🌼
The place was filled with families, and the customer service was exceptional. Everyone was extremely nice, and complimentive of our family.
🌼
Waiting for a table we sat outside on the sand, while music played. 30 minutes later we were seated, and then a Live Band started playing..... I was in heaven. After dinner (portions are huuuge!) we headed back on the sand to listen to the music, while Tori played in the sand, and Iyla clapped her hands.❣
🌼
A random outing, and totally cant wait till go back. The setting was beautiful. Cabanas lined the walled...and colorful chairs throughout the beachy area. And to make matters better....or worst (I dont know how I feel about it yet) we were advised to have more children because our family was "beautiful" said THREE different couples at different times.😫🥰 Hubby enjoyed it aswell, it was a cute family outing. .
.
Dont say I didnt tell yall, this was definitely a Mommy Recommended restaurant 👏🏽 .
