“Those special English gardens which never fail to catch the attention of passers-by” were celebrated in ‘Brilliant Gardens’, a book photographed by Andrew Lawson in 1989. 🌼 This colourful patch was the home of Mrs C. Franks of Steeple Aston, Oxfordshire, who at the time had lived 74 of her 77 years in this formerly thatched cottage. 🌸 Mrs Franks’ cottage garden tips? “Burn all the rubbish, don’t leave it around. Prune shrubs and try to keep them in shape… Take as many cuttings and save as many kinds of seeds as you can for next year… Keep a continuation of colour in the beds right through the year – that’s what makes a cottage garden.” 📷 These photos are part of Andrew Lawson’s photography archive deposited at the Garden Museum, which visitors can view by making an appointment with our Archivist.

#DidYouKnow 💭 - "Alice in Wonderland is an exceptional story to read and was written by Lewis Carroll, a mathematics lecturer at the university. However, most people don’t know that the story’s main character was inspired by a real-life person who was known as Alice Liddell. She was the daughter of the Dean of the college where Lewis taught" 🦋 [VisitOxford.org]⠀

I decided that I would take my photo editing to the extreme and see what I could come up with. This is what I arrived at! It is a little extreme for me personally but it was fun to play around. -⠀
Today was pretty good at work. I drew my first section basically by myself which was pretty great. I feel like I am starting to understand what I am doing!⠀
When were you proud of achieving something at work?
Oxford has been identified as the number one location for Buy to Let landlords, according to Buy to Let lender Aldermore.
Taking into account average total rent, short-term yield, long-term return though house price growth over the last decade, vacancy numbers and the rental population gives Oxford a total score of 74.
Aldermore says that 28 per cent of the city is housed through the private rented sector, the average price per room is nearly £600, properties are generally not vacant, and house price growth is strong. The score was dragged back by the short-term yield, which the lender says is poor.
Caught a moon halo over the house tonight! I was actually looking at the moon through my telescope when I spotted it so had to rush out and grab the camera!
Have you seen a moon halo before? “Rings around the Moon are caused when moonlight passes through thin clouds of ice crystals high in Earth's atmosphere.”

Tie bars hold your tie in place by binding your neckwear to the front placket of your shirt. A tie bar should sit between the 3rd and 4th shirt buttons.
Comes in a gift box so the perfect little stocking filler. 🎁
Do you remember the first networking event you went to?⠀
I remember going to my first ever Buzz networking. #BicesterBuzz ⠀
I didn't know Bicester very well, I'd only ever driven with my family to Sainsbury's and I wasn't sure how near that was to the venue. ⠀
So I found a car park near to the venue and made sure I left early that morning. Just as well, I didn't drive round the road to the right enough and ended up in the middle of a housing estate. Thankfully, I'm good at remembering the way I've driven, so I turned round and got back to the main road behind the shops and this time drove past M&S, successfully finding the car park. ⠀
The walk to the town centre shops was ok, I followed someone else out of the car park and hoped they were going the way I wanted to be going and with a little help from Google maps I found the pub.⠀
The first welcome inside from James was great, put me at my ease and I thought brilliant, really friendly people here I'll stop for a coffee ☕️ And that coffee turned into a few coffees, whilst I met new friends, heard about their business & their working life. Katrina also wanted to know about me, my business & to see how she could help. The warmest welcome from Buzz Hosts 🤩 ⠀
And I remember getting home and thinking "I'm so pleased I went today, that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone; from always going to places I know where they are. I'm so pleased I took the leap to be a business owner. Let's see where this journey takes me."⠀
And with that I went back to studying for my social media management diploma, learning new skills & perfecting those skills; and looked up the date of the next #bicesterbuzz ready to enlarge on my discovery that the world of business owners & freelancers is bigger than you thought about when in corporate life.⠀
What's your fondest networking memory?⠀
