Having a wolfdog, having any dog, having any animal companion for that matter is world shaking if you really pay attention. No coach, no professor, no CEO, no guru, no human could teach me half of what Saaya has taught me. I look back and see how different my life was and is now. All the illusions and all the things that were not serving my soul or my journey that just fell away since he came into my life. Things I thought I needed to be happy, things I thought I wanted, paths I thought I needed to be on, ways of thinking that I thought were the right ones all washed away. I have been cracked open raw, pushed to my limits, and forced to find a new way time and time again these last few years. Walking life beside Saaya has shown me more about myself and more about this world than I could ever learn from any other source. I’m sad for people that see their dogs as just dogs. I would not even be a fraction of the woman I am now if that’s how I saw Saaya. I’ve challenged every aspect of my being with him and I am beyond grateful to be blessed with his presence and companionship. His name could not be any more appropriate. Saaya means Shadow in Hindi. And since having this shadow of mine I have been able to face my own inner shadow and do the most important work of all. I could not think of a better person/being/soul to walk through the dark with then him. I hope for some this sparks the desire to watch your four legged companions more closely. What can you learn from them? What are they teaching you about the people and things around you? What are they teaching you about yourself? You may be surprised by what you find. 🌿

Imagine if the mistakes we made actually helped us to just become better versions of ourselves. I believe this is what life is about, and when we look at it this way, then there is nothing to be afraid of!

I absolutely loved this hot spring in the Alvord Desert because you can control the heat and keep it nice and toasty your whole soak! In fact sometimes it got too hot in there which is even better when the weather is below the 20s! We were surprised that there were 3 other small groups here during Thanksgiving and the bad weather but it was still very quiet & private, especially since we picked a campsite way in the back against the playa and were the only ones camped back there. You can camp on the playa for free but when it's wet from rain or snow it isn't advisable to go out there since it gets crazy muddy and your car can get stuck so if you're coming out here and run into bad weather the Alvord Hot Springs is a good alternative to camp at.
This little remote hot spring in the high desert was one of my favorite experiences of the trip because we were the only ones here and it really felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. The snow had been falling since last night so the drive there was a little scary and eerie and we only saw 2 trucks going the opposite direction. We were worried the spring wouldn't be warm enough but it was plenty hot and it was so peaceful soaking in the springs watching the snow fall around us and enjoying the quiet. I love how deep and wide the springs are, the soft squishy bottom, and the large flat rocks to sit on around the sides.
Hot spring soaks are 100x better in the snow! This was the 1st hot spring we got to enjoy this holiday weekend and it was amazing. The steam was crazy though and it was hard getting any good shots but the sunset was a golden pink fire! 🔥 Joe and I spent the last couple days in the Alvord Desert and it was so much fun! We didn't get to do any of the hiking we planned or camp on the playa because the snow came and covered everything and the playa isn't safe to drive on when it is wet since your car will most likely get stuck in the wet clay!
