The next couple weeks are BUSY. So I’m Enjoying the last bit of slow time while it lasts!
Today’s starts with:
1. Breakfast, coffee, and reading with good tunes🎶
2. Then Church and bible study with friends🙏🏼❤️

The benefits of some of the following will be too long to list, but i assure you these are some kick arse ways to look after your physical and mental health. 1. Take an infrared sauna - Not just amazing for recovery, but also heart health, longevity, muscle preservation and gain, increased performance and better sleep 💤
2. Have a massage - Aside from all the health benefits, these just feel ACE 🙌
3. Take a long walk in the fresh air and stop somewhere for a freshly brewed coffee and read ten pages of a great book. (scrolling INSTA does not count)
4. Cuddle a dog (this is always gonna make the top 10)
5. Dip in the ocean- Cold immersion has umpteen billion health benefits (yep put your nerd hat on and go research)
6. Go package free- take a trip to the market, grab organic produce, get super excited about #realfood and cook up a storm
7. Make a phone call to a loved one that you have not been making time for. (not sure if this has science backed evidence but i reckon you'll feel good 🤷♀️) 8. Buy an indoor plant #plantgoals 🌿
9. Only be with whoever makes you truly happy. 👫🐶👯♀️
10. As the day comes to a close, set your intentions for the week. Have a yummy dinner, pour a herbal tea or glass of red wine, take a square of super dark chocolate, light a candle, burn some essential oils, and know that MONDAY will not know what hit it when you arrive. 💥

Started the day off with 6 miles! After FIVE days of rest😳yep, you read that right. And it probably makes some of you shudder with fear and discomfort....but last weekend, just 5 days post-marathon, I did almost 7 miles Saturday and 5.5 Sunday, with my knees aching halfway thru each run. So I listened to my body and took ANOTHER five days off!😳And you know what, the world kept turning and my knees felt great on today’s run. Sometimes we get too caught up in keeping up the grind, pushing thru, the “plan” or being tough and lose sight of listening to our body and what it needs. As a #mastersrunner , if I want to keep running for another 30 years, I’d better be smart & listen. The earlier you learn this skill, the longer you’ll run!

My definition of a “cheat” or “rest” day - Every single day is commenced with lifting weights - I’ve heard varying philosophies on “gloves,” “what size gloves,” “hand wraps,” etc., from a diversity of life-long martial artists with differing disciplines (that’s why I enjoy training at several places, with various people and resources) - I mix it up. You can train “full power” w/ 16 oz. gloves; you can train hand / wrist position (focusing on 1st two knuckles / turning that elbow up) w/ wraps / bare knuckle / 4 oz’ers (which are very different than all) - I try to be a sponge around everyone. Mouth closed (except to express appreciation); both ears and mind open. I get a lot out of every glove (or lack thereof) / style / discipline / person with whom I train / observe / follow. I get asked all the time why it's important to massage scars and why can it be a problem.
In fact, my friend asked me this morning why and how to massage her C-section scar after giving birth. This is in the same conversation about why she still feels gut-punching pain and soreness.
In her case, that soreness could lead to scar contaction where it tightens and can cause cramping, low back pain, some redistribution of tissue into pockets surrounding the incision and poor activation of the abdominal muscles.
BRING IT DOWN A NOCH...
SLEEP - sleeping is crucial take this time to recuperate and decrease your stream in your system
NUTRITION - Resty is taking a day off from training but not from your diet remember to always eat fruits and veggies so that all your macro nutrients are met
PROTEIN - continue eating a good amount of protein so that your muscle tissues can rebuild and you can continue regularly tomorrow with your workouts
WATER - drink water regularly as it allows you to function as optimal as possible and will assist you with recovery
