  • One of the most common requests we get from our athletes is for help on improving their mental strength.

It's all too common for runners of all abilities to experience doubt. It happens during training runs. It happens on the starting line. It happens at mile 16 of a marathon. It even happens while laying in bed trying to sleep. In happens anytime, anywhere.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your mind is conditioned to follow the patterns we develop. If you aren't careful, your mind will build a path that is negative and full of doubt.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you allow your mind to dwell on the past, you will feel regret.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you allow your mind to dwell on the future, you will feel anxiety and fear.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But if you keep your mind grounded in the present, you are able to convert your thoughts into action. Being able to control what you can do now is important.

So the next time you are feeling regret or anxiety, ask yourself, "What can I do right now?" And then do it and celebrate that decision.

There are many simple and efficient tools to help train the mind to be strong. We help our athletes learn and practice the skills needed to stay mentally strong.

  • I have had some time to digest and reflect! Well organized race. The scenery was beautiful, the temperature was perfect. The only thing I didn't like is that the bulk of it is down the shoulder of a major road. Lots of traffic and large trucks blasting by! You know that feeling, when a really big one goes by and the wind hits you so hard, it takes your breath away! It made sense why 2 of the 4 girls in front of me all had earphones and music. I kinda wish I had too, to block out all the noise! 
I would not have trained differently, and trust my coach's plan entirely. 
I'm running within a minute of my 2016 PB, and with another build geared towards the half instead of the 5km, I can nail this! 
Consistency is key. Motivation waxes and wanes, but discipline is gold. Now just to chose a spring half!🤔. Must be: close to home, at sea level, not 500 degrees. 😂. #MedalMonday

  • Happy #medalmonday  2019 style. I won’t be running anymore races this year. I did a couple more than I had actually planned to do this year. But they all led up to one thing and that was the marathon.  I’m still deciding what fall marathon I’ll be doing next year as I don’t see my chances of getting into Chicago very high lol.  Last year this time I was doing C25k and had no idea 2019 I would become a marathoner. A decision I made while drinking on New Years that I was going to do it.  I had a very tough spring half marathon where my heart rate was super high the whole race to having a 20 minute pr a couple months later at the fall half in the rain and breaking 3. Ran a very hot and humid 10k  in the July heat and ran  the shamrock shuffle 8k after fighting a stomach bug the week before and barely hydrated. And while I didn’t get the time I wanted with hot chocolate I still had a huge pr. I didn’t race a lot this year as I have in previous years. I focused more so on training and recovery. I’m so excited to see how 2020 will go for me. 2019 was my year of growth in running. My year to figure out who I am and who I wanted to be. Work hard and never stop grinding!

  • California International Marathon! 🏃🏼‍♂️👊🏼🏃🏼‍♂️

A humid & sweaty first half followed by a rainy & cold second half...that combo didn’t make for a great day for me and I didnt get the race I was after or what trained for, but that’s okay! I know the training will pay off in time so just need to keep on pushing forward(after a week off 😂). I still managed a 10 minute PR and I’m happy with that.

Lulu and Dad both had solid races. Lulu had an awesome race and I’m super proud of him! He was able to break 4 hours for the first time and walk away with a nice 7 minute PR! Dad didn’t PR, but with some minor nagging injury’s over that last 5 weeks he was still able to run smart and match his PR!
