  • It’s true that my running fitness isn’t where it was in fall 2018. Life outside of running since last December has been hard. By far the hardest year since 2012-2013 when I lost my brother. I’ve fought some battles that I absolutely don’t want to fight again. I keep showing up with my running because I love it, but it’s true that stress and emotions took a toll on it this year. My goal for half training was A) sub 1:40, B) PR. I didn’t get either. It stings. After 3 months of hard training you hope it falls together on race day and it didn’t for me. There were a lot of times on Sunday I wanted to give in. One mile I wanted to throw in the towel, the next mile I was feeling good and playing mind games like, “stay with this group” and “keep that person in sight”. It was very back and forth, similar to this year. I’ve been open this fall that running has been hard mentally. I’ve channeled my energy and emotions into a lot of places this year and it’s exhausting. It’s a difficult pill to swallow that I wasn’t where I was last fall. But I keep putting one foot in front of the other because that’s what I do, I don’t give up. 🌟3 years ago, I was on cloud 9 to run a 1:49. 🌟5 years ago, I ran a 2:20 and remember telling myself I’d never be fast enough to run in the 1:40s. 🌟On a hard day after a really hard year, with 450 ft of hills, I ran 1:49. It’s not my best but it’s still progress over time and fitness was still gained. Treating my recovery just like I would’ve if I had run a 1:39 so no structured running until 2020, and we’ll see what it brings! But first, time for some R&R😊

  • Let’s chat🗣 CUMULATIVE FATIGUE
.
When I was totally overtrained- I let all the red flags go because I chalked it up to CUMULATIVE FATIGUE (granted, I had no idea what cumulative fatigue was🙈)- but I let the concept of being tired in marathon training be my excuse for *everything* going downhill: high heart rate, not hitting pace on any of my workouts, having to stop a bunch of times in ez runs because I was so tired. THAT is not cumulative fatigue.
.
I think the hardest part for first time marathoners/newer runners- is we don’t know good tired from bad tired. So when we tip over from the good side, to the dark side- we may think everything is still good- until it isn’t.
.
👉🏽So what is CUMULATIVE FATIGUE??
.
The point of training is to put miles on your body- you don’t want a fresh body while in training- because when you do workouts- the assumption is- you’re not going in fresh- & you’re able to build the strength - that even tired- you hit the workouts! The fatigue accumulates because you’re not getting a lot of time to freshen up between workouts & you’re running recovery runs in between. We NEED the cumulative fatigue. It’s what allows us to prepare for a 26.2 mile race without actually having to run that distance in training. Since we’re not fresh- those last miles of a long run mimic the last miles of a marathon (or other race).
.
👉🏽So how do you stay IN cumulative fatigue & not tip over into overtraining?!
.
⚡️Listen to your body!!! If something is feeling off- don’t be afraid to take a down day.
.
⚡️Run recovery runs ACTUALLY EASY!! If you run them too quick, your body can’t recover from workouts- a sure way to land in overtraining purgatory!
.
⚡️Talk to a mentor/coach! They can help you differentiate between CF & overtraining.
.
⚡️Look at workouts! Are you hitting prescribed/realistic paces for you? Cumulative fatigue is “tired- BUT I can still knock my workouts out!”
.
⚡️How’s your Heart Rate on EZ runs? Or while you sleep? Too high??! You need more recovery.
.
⚡️Overtraining messes with our motivation. If you’re feeling burned out- it could be the precursor to overtraining.
.
.
Talk to ya girl— how do you keep yourself in cumulative fatigue?🗣

  • Monday ain’t harder than crossing the finishline at a 5K race - SMILE and HAPPY monday 😂 / Så smiler jeg altid og ser yndefuld ud når jeg løber?

  • Make one person happy each day even if it’s yourself .
.
What do you do daily that truly makes you happy?
RUNNING for me is my happy because the road never discriminates, judges, or hates. It’s a stress-free zone of just letting go by working on myself for myself; and I think there’s a hidden beauty in that.
I did not say my Family because they are a given and have always been there for me which automatically makes me happy. What we have to remember is that happiness is a choice and exercise os the epitome of happy.
Happiness comes in all forms and exercise is truly something you should consider as a New Years goal.
Why?
▪️Exercise releases endorphins which are our feel-good chemicals. ▪️Exercise is known to trigger happiness in our brain where we can easily deal with depression, anxiety, loss, emptiness, and even as far as dealing with a disease.
▪️You get the highest level of happiness with exercise if you are just starting out.
▪️Tracking or logging your exercise will provide you with a sense of personal proud which ultimately delivers a happy moment. ▪️Positive effects of a workout on your mood
▪️Exercise will simply provide results which most likely lead to body image which then makes a person happy. .
.
After all, good health is happiness.
So if it’s exercise that makes you happy, I wish you all the best as you continue your journey to inspire others. You’re never too old or to late to start something new!
4 Miles to start out the week + Physical Therapy 🙌🏼

  • Unfortunately sound didn’t get recorded. But want to take you along on my journey of running a half marathon. I ran 3.5 miles today with my sisters @farheenhch dog Chara. (Huge perk of being neighbors and best friends!) now off to taking a spin class with @codyrigsby. Trying to take it one step at a time, so that I don’t injure myself. Instead, I hope to be strong 💪🏽 and ready to run 🏃‍♀️ the 13 miles in January. Love y’all for your support.
Question: Do you have any recommendations for Spotify stations during a run? Would love some good fast paced music. For now I listen to workout music and pumped pop.

  • Winter running is hard. What's even harder is getting back on. Stop waiting for the perfect conditions or be left behind.

  • Guess what y’all??? ITS HALF MARATHON WEEK!!! 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️.
.
And not only is this my second half of the year but I get to do it with two of my favorite race buddies who are running theirs for the first time!! @grantlyyy & @instagramlessdiane 🤗🤗.
.
Not sure where you’re at in your own fitness journey but if a half intimidates you then lemme just say... gurrrll I was too! Right before I completed my 1st one less than a year ago 😳 and it was only 2 years ago that I completed my 1st 5k 😳😳.
.
So what am I’m trying to say...? That if you just decide to do it and stick to it that it’ll be easy?? Lol I wish that was the case y’all... 😂.
.
But no the truth is that it doesn’t get easier you just get stronger 💪🏼.
.
And if you really think about it how boring would it be if it was all easy?? We wouldn’t be celebrating marathon runners as much as we do cause then anyone could do a marathon! 🤔.
.
And the same can be translated to our mental strength: when we set, stick to, and overcome hard things either physically or mentally our self talk starts telling us we are capable of tough things 👊🏼.
.
So here’s to not wishing for an easy life but instead praying for the strength to overcome the inevitable difficulties that come with living 🙌🏼

Seriously good tracks for MTB and running, curling around the hills following an old railway to a copper mine. .

  • The best view comes after the hardest climb. 🐾👟👆
.
.
These stairs were actually the easiest climb Mollie and I did this weekend. We went out to the Indiana Dunes National Park to do some trail running and hike the sand dunes. Being from the midwest, any hills are tough for me, but add sand to the mix, and HOLY MUTT it was challenging.
.
.
Even though I felt it today, it's a good reminder that the best things in life take hard work. Embrace the hard workouts, embrace the pain, and you'll be rewarded (once the soreness wears off). .
.
What's been your "hardest climb"? #laceup 👟 #leashup 🐕

  • Whether it’s heading out for a run or to shoot some hoops in the Winter cold, warming up indoors before heading outdoors is super important in preventing injury. Building up your internal body heat will also help to take the edge off the bitter cold.
Stretch your legs, arms, hammies , glutes etc and then do some basic excercises such as lunges, push ups, planks and squats. 👊🏼💥

I’m not gonna lie - we were so busy this weekend, particularly yesterday, that I almost didn’t do my 1 mile run. I looked at my husband and he said, “I’ll finish dinner. Go do it! It’ll take you 10min at the most. Stick to your goal!” And with that, my #runstreak is on day 9 and counting 👊🏻 A little reminder that sometimes it’s hard to motivate yourself 24/7, and that’s ok. But thats why it is important to have people surrounding you who believe in you, uplift you, and push you to achieve, and sometimes exceed, your goals/dreams.

  • Behind every project manager, there’s an army of exceptional people who strive to produce everything that is needed for the success of the project.

Some team members were either remote or not able to attend today as we reflected back on our hard work, so they are not pictured here but they too played a critical role in this work.

This project and this team was one of the biggest efforts I have had to lead during my career at BAYADA & it was a smashing success - not because of me but because of these folks.

Hats off to all of these people I now call my very good friends. I love you all. We ebbed and we flowed and we flexed and we did it. #ThisIsBayada

  • 3.4 great pain free miles! 🎉
.
.
I haven’t ran consistently in 2 weeks. It started with knee pain last week. Then my shoulder started hurting last Monday. Today I felt healthy and everything was feeling right. I don’t love this 70 degree weather, but I love not having any pain. I think I am going to avoid hills till I get my base built back up. I got a major case of the lazies over thanksgiving 😬
.
.
On another positive note things are starting to look up! I am feeling like my old self again. You always have to put yourself first. You will never make a bad decision that way. You are beautiful and deserve all the love. If someone doesn’t want to treat you how to deserve they need to go. If you love yourself truly, you will always put your needs and happiness first. Learning to love myself has been an arduous process. I did it though and so can you ♥️
