Gus on the bus (aka our elf on the shelf) has officially made his come back for this year! He’s hangin’ out in the kitchen watching me cook breakfast this morning😁 Even though Nora is probably too young to understand the concept of it, she’ll appreciate it later on when we show her the photos of all the Christmas traditions we are creating as a family 🥰
This thing is amazing! I was having a hard time with the score and snap tile cutter ... so hubby bought me this!! I got all the tiles cut for the tire well! It's the weekend so it's break time but I should have a shower tiled by next week!

Ya gurl is putting in werk! I've never worked so hard on something in my life 😅. I have about 3 and half weeks left until move in day. It is creeping up fast and although I'm making great progress, I'm trying not to get too complacent. I try to work on the bus at least 3 or 4 hours everyday. This morning I completed my "bedroom" dresser. I'm so over making drawers 😂 I've made about 10 so far but I think I will end up making a couple more just so I can have extra storage space.

Getting the subfloor sheeting down proved to be extra difficult because the chair rail (that the old bus seats mounted to) stuck too far out to let the full-width plywood down to floor level.
.
To solve the problem, we decided to cut a strip out of the chair rail to allow the sheets to pass through. With concerns about sparks melting our beautiful new foam insulation, we constructed a metal and tarp-clad protective cocoon we lovingly dubbed “hell fort.”
.
Unfortunately, the maniacal energy that emanated from hell fort as the chair rail was mercilessly sacrificed caused our video footage to be corrupted. It’s probably for the best.
.
It was tight but the cut did allow the plywood through! After a brief hell fort exorcism to cleanse the space, we got on with the plywood show!

Sometimes it’s the simple trips that turn out to be the best.
🌵☀️
Anza Borrego was a really quick and easy journey from our home in San Diego. Luckily it was cool this time of year so we didn’t need A/C! The hikes were great, the night skies were awesome, and there were plenty of free places to park!

#tinyliving and #homeschooling is a very interesting combination. One: your kids are nerds so they need space for all the books you want to trash. Two: you don't have the space😏 Knowing that beforehand, we have utilize every inch of the #lionsdenbus . This space used to house the heater that came with the bus that we had no need for so now it houses the kids school basket which has their everyday schoolwork.

Bus pillows! Turning out better than I could have imagined.
Exciting news; we have a stationary home! Dont worry we arent selling our bus but we are no longer full time travelers.
This week has been busy getting everything together and getting used to all the space! We made this decision not because we hate the bus life but because we had to be in this location for a specific reason.
My nephew has had a hard life with both his parents being drug addicts and his grandparents raising him since he was a baby. His mom has cleaned up but still cant have full custody of him. His grandmother has recently passed away and his grandfather is in no shape to take care of him so thats where we come in! We have partial custody of my 12 year old nephew. We went from no children living in a bus to having to take care of a 12 year old while living in a house. It is crazy how much life can change in such a short amount of time.
Falling in love with little man is not what I imagined fatherhood would be like. I knew I would love him. But to enjoy him more and more each and everyday as he progresses is a joy I never imagined. This first year has been exceptional. #fatherhood#milonelson#parentlife#dadlife
A skoolie conversion is not all smiles!
But last night I watched a @brenebrown talk on Netflix about vulnerability. One small takeaway (there were so many!) was that vulnerability is required in order to live a truly courageous life. It reminded me of just how big a risk we’ve taken to pursue this dream life. Even though it’s scary at times, it gave me renewed energy and encouragement that we are moving in the right direction and that is certainly a reason to smile.
To anyone who chooses courage over comfort today, give yourself a pat on the back and leave a 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏽♂️ in the comments so we can all support one another.

Not a soul in sight, only the birds chirping, waves crashing, and that one little pesky airplane overhead 😂
.
.
We used to live such a social and fast paced life, we were really surprised how well we adapted to keeping to ourselves and soaking in every moment. It required a lot of ‘power free’ nights in our apartment, with nothing to entertain ourselves with but our conversation and board games by candlelight; cooking in a kitchen with no oven, and too many overflowing dishes to have counter space or a normal sized sink. Now that we look back on it, we like to call it ‘bus life training’ 😂
.
.
Every day, we ‘train’ ourselves to adapt and do something new. Whether it’s learning how to shower with a spray bottle, or cleaning the stove out every morning to avoid me (Kae) having to scrub for hours once a week. So much so that we even got rid of one of our cell phones and share one device! We’re with each other 24/7 and half the time we found ourselves procrastinating, it was due to sitting on our phones! This way when one person is researching our next spot to camp, the other gets to tidy up, start projects, or walk the dogs. Slowly but surely we’re developing a routine to this ‘routine free’ lifestyle, and it makes it easier every day!
Sunsets with a rooftop view 👌 .

Ole Capt. Ron is back from the shop with a clean bill of health. I thought it might be a worthwhile investment to have it looked over by a professional before I started doing any major work. I spent around $350 for a “DOT inspection”. They went through all of the major systems and some of the minor systems, answered some questions I had and gave me a good peace of mind knowing that the bus will be safe for the foreseeable future. Definitely worth it if you are looking to convert. Have a professional look at your rig! #busconversion#schoolie#schoolbus#schoolbusconversion#busbuild#tinyhome#ontheroad#vanclans#tinyhometours

Did i mention it gets a little cold here... I forgot to post these, this is from last month. Its been nicer since then but im sure that'll change soon enough.
Second stage of insulation on the ceiling underway. I honestly don’t exactly know what I’m doing, I’m trying to learn as I go. My theory is that I’m going to layer the ceiling with 3 layers of different kinds of insulation. I did a #reflectixinsulation base layer to which I’m adding a 1 inch thick solid foam board insulation on top of my first layer. Gaps filled in with #greatstuffinsulatingfoam over those I plan on a final layer of insulation before doing Tongue and groove wooden boards. #schoolbusconversion#schoolbus#tinyhouse#imbuildingatinyhouse#homeiswhereyouparkit

The cutest view from our living room window yet. Paige and Autumn are my two best friends and I couldn’t be happier, sharing this adventure with them! Now quit distracting me you two 😉 So I can get back to installing the subfloor.
This is not a recent photo as I am currently writing this in my sweatpants and oversized hoodie as I feel terrible and tired today. I wanted to do a throw back picture since I really want to give this guy a HUGE shoutout for taking care of me, our family and our home bus, Alex. Who takes care of you when you aren’t having a great day? ✨
Koda has been obsessed with all the windows in the bus and now has a new favorite chill spot 😂
So grateful that these pups are just as excited about #buslife as we are! We’ve made a lot of progress in the past few weeks and can’t wait to post our new YT video tomorrow!
Catch up on what progress we’ve made, as well as why we haven’t posted for a while and some general life updates happening for us! 😬🖤 #skoolie#schoolbus#schoolbusconversion#tinyliving#progress#rollingparadisebus#rollingparadise#pitbull
N E W T O Y S.
from everything I’ve read and watched, an air chisel was the way to go for removing rivets and I can definitely say everyone was right. Never in my life did I think I would be so excited for a power tool
here’s what we followed:
One of our biggest concerns when building our #schoolbusconversion was that we wouldn’t have enough counter space! Despite having a double sink (which may seem crazy, but it helps a TON when doing dishes), we have had no complaints about our kitchen space including it’s storage! There’s enough room for both of us to move around and prepare our meals. #aimlesstravels

Our girl has officially seen snow! And now the cold has killed the batteries, but that’s a story for another day. Actually, it’s not much of a story... just the ongoing story that is #skoolielife 🤣

Judgement Free Zone!!
My name is Brittany and I am a proud cannabis user! During my time in the Air Force I've had my share of surgeries (6), and have been diagnosed with medical conditions that warrant narcotics and/or pain medication to be taken daily just for pain management. After serving 11 years, and receiving medical care from Doctors who did not count the patient (ME) as apart of the healthcare team, I decided to do my own research and become apart of my healthcare journey alongside the Doctors at the San Francisco VA. .
.
.
Over the past year and a half, I've been able to ween myself off daily pain medication for chronic migraines, chronic insomnia, chronic neck/shoulder pain, and the steady aches and pains from my 3 foot surgeries. I smoke the cannabis plant, vape, edibles, and I am a hardcore user of CBD in any type of form!! Along with cannabis, I was fortunate enough to get a referral from the VA for acupuncture (IT WORKS) and will be trying cupping in the near future. Oh, and yoga...it helps!!
.
.
At first, I was very weary to put this information out on social media because of the judgement that will come my way. But I then reminded myself that this is my life, and I am doing what I need to do to be happy and healthy. So with that...LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE💓

With the bottom rear glass deleted and new taillights along with the windows tinted to 5% along and closing up all the old light holes and the new bumper and backup camera, I think the rear of the bus has had quite the makeover. So many steps for such a simple part of a 35ft bus.
The ultimate sick beach bum experience 🤧 .
