  • Heartache Hurts More Than a Lobotomy
The brain has an inability to feel.
Doctors could pick the brain,
For hours and hours
Without a single drop of anesthesia,
Millions of needles could pierce your skull,
And assuming its integrity is kept
The brain would continue on.
Like a still lake’s absorption of a heavy stone,
Or a forest fire coming across an orange leaf
This is our brain when confronted by pain.
It’s easy to confuse injury for pain,
Because death and pain walk the same line.
But pain is magic, an anomaly, really.
Despite inhabitable conditions
it seeks asylum anyway,
But not in the form of pins, or hammers, or needles.
But in the form of intangible things.
In the form of scary dreams, and broken friendships,
college debt, worry, love, loss of love.
Through thickets of neurons, and ganglions
And in the crevices within pink matter,
Over sparks between synapses, and nerves
Pressed against the wall of our frail skulls,
Pain manifests in the form of these things.
Like bacteria, one cell at a time, it builds
And builds upon itself until
the body is flushed with infection.
We think up our own pain,
Where there really should be none.

  • MIT Technology Review has published excerpts from a copy of He Jiankui's manuscript, titled “Birth of Twins After Genome Editing for HIV Resistance,” which it obtained from a source earlier in 2019.
•
The outlet also shared the manuscript with a legal scholar, a doctor specializing in in vitro fertilization, an embryologist, and a gene-editing specialist — and the experts’ reactions to He’s CRISPR baby study confirm that it was an absolute ethical nightmare.
•
The MIT Tech Review story highlights 13 problems the experts found with the paper, not least of which is the fact that the researchers behind it never managed to actually prove their claims that the experiment was “successful.”
•
Additionally, the experts note that He and his co-authors seem to have made deliberate attempts to conceal some key information, such as by not naming the doctors involved in the experiment.
•
The experts told MIT Tech Review that reading the manuscript not only left them concerned that the parents involved in the CRISPR baby study only participated to gain access to in vitro fertilization — and not to prevent their offspring from inheriting the father’s HIV — but also that the doctors involved in the experiment might not have even known what was happening.
•
“Approaching this document, I was hoping to see a reflective and mindful approach to gene editing in human embryos,” Rita Vassena, scientific director of assisted reproduction company Eugin Group, told MIT Tech Review.
•
“Unfortunately, it reads more like an experiment in search of a purpose,” she continued, “an attempt to find a defensible reason to use CRISPR-Cas9 technology in human embryos at all costs, rather than a conscientious, carefully thought through, stepwise approach to editing the human genome for generations to come.”

The 12th Key
-
In the 12th key of Basil Valentine, the 12th Arcanum is profoundly studied; thus, it is important to comprehend it. As the lion transforms the serpent into its own flesh when he devours it, likewise the philosophical stone or powder of projection (red lion and living fire) has the power to transmute or transform all imperfect metals into his own igneous substance. The vile metals are the false values that constitute the “I.” The fire transmutes them, and then the “I” is dissolved. Thus, this is how we acquire Soul, Being; this is to be Different.
-
Without the fermentation of the Gold (fire) no one can arrange the philosophical stone or develop the tincturing virtue. The tincture of the fire has the power to penetrate all of the internal bodies in order to radically transform them. Similar is united to its similar in order to transform it. The fire transforms the lead of the personality into the gold of the spirit. 3 serpents that symbolize Mercury, Sulfur, and Salt represent the synthesis of the Great Work. The Phoenix Bird rises from within its own ashes. The alchemists must work for 12 hours in order to attain the fermentation of the gold. Behold here the 12th Arcanum of Kabbalah. Whosoever possesses the fermented gold can have the joy of truly being.

  • "Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire." Can you imagine yourself doing anything else? If the answer is yes... go for it! Push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you. If the answer is no... how lucky are we?! Today I'm feeling extra grateful to be in a career I love. I had a few days off to relax and reflect, but today I'm back at it with a whole new perspective 💪 What's one way you make time for yourself to stay centered? How do you keep your eye on the prize?
