My favorite climbing partner @sherpapk on the summit of Ama Dablam.
I was alone with Pasang Kaji for 80% of this climb. It felt like the two of us just kinda did our own thing up there. We’re laughing most of the time. Occasionally bantering about who looks more pregnant with all the camera gear stuffed in our down suits and in the end plotting how fast we could get down the mountain in the dark so as to not miss the chopper ride out.
It’s always humbling being up above the clouds with this man as he’s such a competent climber having earned his IFMGA mountain certification. He’s always keeping an eye out for me, managing the risk we take shooting while keeping an eye out for the rest of the team.
PK turned back 3 times on Ama Dablam because of issues beyond his control, this time, I was thrilled to see the look on his face when he reached the top. He was clicking away on his 6D, taking pics, shooting 14 stitch panoramas while emulating a few tricks I’ve passed on over the years. I learned a lot from him on this climb and was able to push myself out of my comfort zone in more complex terrain with the highlight being our descent via the Yellow Tower in the dark with headlamps and downsuits.
Another extraordinary shared adventure. I’ve made new friends including many talented Sherpa teammates from @elitehimalayanadventures . I can’t speak highly enough of the Sherpa unit led by @nimsdai . Thanks for having us along for the ride!
A big thank you to @sherpapk for being there by my side. C2-C1 in downsuits with a quick wardrobe change to complete the descent from C1 in the dark is something I’ll always remember. Next time we need at least two cans of RedBull to get down from C2 though. Yes?
Love you my friend! Always a pleasure.
Turmfalke ♀️Falco tinnunculus
