  • I shot this with @juandiegalvez on a whim during my first trip to Italy in 2016. The crest of the road starts in Italy and as you descend, it turns into France. Definitely a trip for an American where we don’t even get that between states! I remember having to re-film this because my camera glitched out and we definitely had some close calls but, what brought me there is a more interesting story.
.
In 2012 I met some random guy (@wolf_bdc) with some Yu-Gi-Oh-lookin-ass hair at the park. Turns out he was an Italian foreign-exchange student going to one of the other high-schools in Salem and wanted to learn more about longboarding. Over the course of the year, my friends and I took him in as our dude and showed him the ropes of downhill.
.
Over the years we kept in touch and kept talking about how I had to visit one day. It was rad to see how he got involved hosting his own events and even helping out with world-class events like the @idfracing Teolo.
.
During my first trip to Europe in 2016, I gave him a call and set up to stay 2+ weeks with him touring around Northern Italy eating “real” pizza and trying not to melt in the 100* weather. He mentioned he was living only 1 hour from the French border and that the roads out there were incredible. He was right!
.
I guess the moral of the story is to keep in touch with old friends and treasure the time you get to spend with them. Nothing is permanent, but that’s the beauty of life. People, opportunities, and challenges are constantly coming and going throughout our lives.
.
I’m definitely no expert philosopher in the area and I’ve had my own unique struggles along the way, but here’s what I’ve learned: 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗮𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.
