The most sustainable thing is the one that we already have.
I may not agree with the full quote here. I'm not sure people share their low-waste journey to impress anybody on social media, but I do like the intention of this post as it resonates with me so strongly.
When I started being intentional about my waste, I was so excited and fascinated with the zerowaste world that I wanted to throw away things and instantly switch to 'low waste' items. Luckily, I had a wise roommate that time who told me to keep using the things and buy only when things get over.
It took time but got around thinking in more sustainable way.
I normally use a DIY toothpowder but as I moved my places again, I again ended up with a toothpaste tube. I kept it with me. At times, when I saw it in my bathroom I felt like what am I promoting? Am I a hypocrite? I'm using this plastic tube! But I had to calm my righteous-self and helped it to become more flexible. It's not about perfection, it's about what I can do willingly. Have you faced this?
Anyway, words below by @luxecyclebda: 'The most sustainable thing you can do is use a product to the end of its lifespan. Tossing out perfectly decent products because they are plastic (or not made of 'green' material) is just wasteful. Don't be a victim of consumerism; don't give in to greenwashing tactics. Use the things you already have until they are no more good, then replace with sustainable alternatives. And remember, you don't have to prove it to anyone. 🌍💛'
Let me know your thoughts? Have you ever trashed talked yourself about your low-waste lifestyle? And if you've recently started practicing low waste, do you want to get rid of your plastic stuff?
Love to hear from you.

At the beginning of the year I set an intention for 2019; 5 new stores to carry my pieces. Today I’m shipping to the 7th store and couldn’t be more stoked. Please please NEVER underestimate what you can accomplish when you set clear intentions and work towards something 🙌🏽💫 It has been 3+ years now and I have watched this little line of mine grow and evolve with me over time and I am proud 🌞 @airsigncollective

We usually start out thinking that being eco friendly is very easy, & when you just start out, it usually is. Giving up straws/having reusable bags are pretty easy things to change. But when you start really challenging yourself to change+push yourself to do stuff that isn’t as convenient- it can get hard. It can be especially hard when you feel like you have to pick what is a lesser of two evils. A choice is not always⚫️ or ⚪️ & it’s not always feasible for someone to pick the “best” option. .
Example- a store wants to provide affordable zero waste swaps for low income customers who feel left out because they can’t afford to spend a bunch of money on those swaps. (You can’t reuse or diy EVERYTHING, the argument here is not “well they shouldn’t root their environmentalism in consumerism” so let’s say someone wants a bamboo toothbrush and a safety razor b/c those aren’t frivolous consumer purchases)
Buying ethical goods has a higher up front cost that often means that in order for the store to be able to make a profit & the vendor to get paid what they deserve to get paid- the product ends up being more💰 to the consumer. (Say a toothbrush is $2 & a razor is $15 vs $5 & $40) If you’re living paycheck to paycheck it’s a lot easier to justify $17 vs $45 for 2 products OR if you’re a family possibly $38 vs $100 (2 razors + 4 toothbrushes)
How do you navigate that as ANY of those people?
Each person has to weigh the pros and cons. (Cont. in comments)

Happy National Recycling Day! If you prioritize recycling anything today, make sure it's ALUMINUM ♻️🥫>🗑️🥫
♻️Recycling 1 aluminum 🥫 saves enough energy to run a 📺 for three hours.
♻️Aluminum is infinitely recyclable, meaning it does not degrade in quality each time it's remanufactured like paper and plastic do.
♻️ Aluminum takes 200-500 years to fully degrade in a landfill.
♻️Recycled aluminum can be returned to store shelves in as little as 60 days.
♻️Recycling aluminum takes 95% less energy than making aluminum from raw materials, and the more we recycle, the less we'll need to drill into our beautiful Mother Earth to produce more.
We recommend crushing your cans and shooting them into your recycling bin like a 🏀😏🙌

The Feel Good Event hosted by @livezoku was very inspiring!
Had the pleasure to meet Marieke Eyskoot @mariekeeyskoot, she is a sustainable and lifestyle fashion expert & was nominated #amsterdam citizen of the year.
Such a fan of @livezoku, they really considered all small details as usual.
20 Nike Women of EMEA network members were lucky enough to participate.
We were treated with massages & #veganfood and nice drinks.
What I learned is that we can’t be perfect human beings, thinking we have to go sustainable all the way in one day but we can be more mindful and do small changes slowly & of course share our learnings with others!
I will try to eliminate the thoughts that living in a sustainable way is more expensive and it’s difficult because it’s not.
The book #thisisagoodguideforasustainablelifestyle is the next book I’ll be reading. ❤️📖🙏🏻
Thanks & looking forward to more @livezoku surprises and the upcoming event next year.
☂️ Umbrellas and the environment ☂️ I was walking along Oxford Street on a classic grey, windy London day.
It began to drizzle so I pulled up my hood, watching numerous tourist store workers pushing displays of British flag umbrellas, heckling passing shoppers to buy one to keep dry.
Groups of tourists flocked, handing over cash for a cheap, crappy umbrella they will probably use for a few hours before discarding.
In the evening, I noticed battered and broken umbrellas piled next to bins throughout the city - destined to spend the next 500+ years in landfill.
It was a classic display of the collective mindset our society currently suffers from - cheap disposable plastic can solve just about any problem.
Personally I have an small umbrella I keep in my bag and a good quality raincoat that I’ve had for years. If I’m stuck without either, then I get a little soggy!
How do you stay dry when it’s raining? 👇

Picking colours for The Local at first was a really daunting task (I am the monochrome goth queen - hello @thebrightstoreldn) but it ended up being a natural process between us and it is so sick seeing the rooms come to life step by step.
The renovations are being done top to bottom so the cafe sometimes feels so far in the future. I have never said “we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it” as much as I have in the past six months.
It’s a terrifying to think that one day all the ideas in our head will be experienced by others but it’s also really fucking exciting. 🍜🌇

Inspireren & geïnspireerd worden...
🍂🍂 Gisteren voelde ik me geïnspireerd! Ja dat maakt me blij! En dan voel ik me helemaal geïnspireerd! 🍂🍂

Surprise 💁🏼♀️👋🏻 bet u thought u saw the last of me ✌🏻so it might have been a bit of a while (5 months) since I’ve posted on here so if you don’t know me irl I am still alive. Over the summer I was back in China working in a kids summer camp and did some travelling after (have a snoop of my personal account @julesevans101 if u wanna be nosey). Which was abso amazing but WiFi connection was not 😂 Since then it’s all been a bit manic. Commuting to London every day, starting a full time masters course with a part time job was just as overwhelming as I expected it to be 😂 My course is environment, politics and globalization and although the stress of essays and coursework may say otherwise; I absolutely LOVE it. And it has really inspired me to put my all into raising awareness over climate change so I thought I’d use the platform I already had and here we are!! I want to move the focus of my feed away from food (although big love for that too) and more towards activism/sustainability but we’ll see what happens 😂 Wishing you all a happy Friday!!! Jules xoxox
What is Eco Anxiety...🌿
A 2017 American Psychological Association report defined Eco Anxiety as “a chronic fear of environmental doom”🍂
Other reports describe it as “feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude of environmental issues and being mindful that you are just one person”🍁
I know, it sounds very overwhelming and for many people (including myself at times), it is🍃
I’ve been a bit quite over the last week on here because of this extreme overwhelming feeling I’ve been getting when I realise how much damage we have done and how little time we have to fix it🌱
How little big companies and governments are doing to fix it🌾
If you are prone to anxiety, and a caring person, you are more likely to experience feelings of Eco Anxiety from time to time and although it’s not a good feeling, I’m starting to realise that this fear can be utilised✨
I have turned my fear and dread into action by
🌿educating myself so I really know what my impact is
🌿questioning norms and changing my habits (even when it’s hard)
🌿organising events in my work community to help and expose others to the change that needs to be made
🌿putting pressure on those with more power than me to take a stand
I can only do this in burst and sometimes I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle, but I’ve also discovered amazing people around me who want to fight as well and we feed off each other✨
So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the state of our planet right now, take a break and then go out and use that feeling to make the change you want to see🌻

There are so many others affected by this than just koalas and I hope to share them so you can understand how devastating fires can be (if you don’t experience wild fires) there’s a few gofundme’s happening that will donate to places that are caring for the surviving koalas! If you go to them and type Australia or koalas you’ll find it!

I renamed our tinyest Viking... Everybody meet Vin-Zilla 🦖 👋🏻 If I ever thought we were living minimalistic this is not my current feeling. When everything you own are emptied from drawers, cabinets and bags over and over again you truly feel you own to much. Can you sense that he take up most of our attention... and then there’s the temper (swipe right) 😅. I am super thankful the rest of the family could find the energy to sing me a birthday song on this very morning where I turned 33 🇩🇰 Happy Friday everyone 🙋🏽♀️

An irrelevant photo for an important message... I have a new blog post up 👀
Yep, you heard me right! I've been smashing out some posts as of late and I'm hoping to get into the habit of publishing two a week. Anyway, head over to my bio and click the link! I've shared with you 5 items that are currently on my wishlist 👗
And the read of the day is “The Body” by Cameron Diaz. Although not recent, this entertaining and inspirational read involves some insights into human physiology as well:) What else to ask for in girls’ read? Because after all, “Relative to the body ALL clothing is accessory” •xs xs• 😘 What “Body” books that are also entertaining would you recommend?
☼ ECO ADVENT ☼⠀
✨ SAVE THIS POST & SHARE A LITTLE KINDNESS THIS XMAS ✨⠀
I went to the shops today…. I know that’s probably an everyday thing for most, but I LOATHE going to the shops. I go in there with great intentions, and then mid way… I get so anxious.. Totally wig out and leave with none of the things I went there for. Every time.⠀
Anyhow, pre wig out… I was looking at all of the advent calendars, loving on my decision to make advent a learning experience this year, and loving that I wont be supporting cadbury or nestle in purchasing one of their crappy chocolate calendars.⠀
Did you see the page on advent in my sustainable xmas guide? (link in profile!), it describes how we will be doing advent this year as a family - with our advent kindness challenge. Isnt that what christmas is all about? Giving and making people feel loved? Where did this chocolate thing come from?⠀
Now, I don’t want you to think I am this perfect mum teaching all of these perfect things to her kids… most of these ideas I have come from moments of #mumguilt where I self evaluate how I handle situations as a parent and think about how I can do better and teach them better.⠀
Anyway in the guide I have a template full of all of the ‘kindness challenges’ that we will be doing. So each day, the kids open their advent and in it is a kindness challenge.. Simple things, that will make others smile. 😊⠀
You can make an advent calendar with string, pegs and envelopes or you can buy a keepsake calendar to use for all kind of advent ideas for years to come, like the one you can get from @littlelambscreative!⠀
Are you doing any fun advent challenges with your kids this Xmas? Share them below 👇🏻

I saw my first Black Friday advert this week and it angered me beyond belief. Our addiction to S T U F F is dangerous. Here’s some reasons why you can and should avoid being sucked in to the Black Friday black hole... 1) You probably don’t really *need* it. Will your life be positively enhanced by this product? Will it being you joy? Will it change your life? If not, don’t add to the pile of “stuff” accumulating in your life.
2) It perpetuates the consumerist mindset we must escape from. Our desire for “stuff” is a huge driver of many of the global problems we are facing: inequality, climate change, biodiversity loss... 3) Someone is suffering for your purchase. If products were actually worth their value, everybody in the supply chain would be paid a fair wage. But we all know that doesn’t happen. Especially regarding technology, *literal slaves* are used to mine for precious metals used in batteries.
4) It increases your carbon footprint. Industrial manufacturing processes are HIGHLY polluting. Products are made abroad and shipped/flown around the world. We blame China for high emissions but we forget that WE consume most of the stuff they manufacture.
If you really really really do *need* something, here’s some ideas about how to get your hands on one ETHICALLY and FAIRLY: - Second hand: eBay, charity shops, online refurbishing retailers
- Buy ethical: eg @fairphone !!!
- Borrow! If it’s speakers for a party or a camera for a trip, ask to borrow one from a friend. Let’s get that #sharingeconomy up and running.

Morning!! It’s Thursday and I am visiting the motherland and today I’m taking my baby boy on his first visit to the @efteling , a fairytale wonder land where my parents used to take me when I was young. Surrounded by nature, it really takes you out of everyday life and enables you to #livemoremagic ⠀
Talking abiut nature, did you know that these hoops are totally kind to our planet? 💚 And they’re kind to you too, as this Friday we’re starting our 25% discount Black Friday sale!! Woohoo! (check bio for discount code)⠀
For this beautiful pair, we have used recycled brass which was then goldplated, naturally dyed coconut disc beads, and natural Pagsahingin seeds. I am in love with the autumnal colour scheme of these beauties! 🥰 ⠀
