  • people like to be all-in or all-out with their views and understanding of things⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fitness is no exception⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You've got⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Vegan Diet vs. Carnivore Diet⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HIIT Cardio vs. LISS Cardio⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fat Shaming vs. Health At Every Size⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are so many polar opposite views about so many different topics in fitness, it's hard to know what's right or wrong.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Truth is, there are rarely (if ever) completely right or completely wrong answers.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Enter weight loss…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you're overweight and unhappy about it (problem), then it seems obvious that LOSING weight becomes the solution.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Naturally, the solution becomes the goal.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But as people who've successfully (or unsuccessfully) lost weight know...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Weight loss can be wildly unpredictable.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As because of it, some people end up developing an unhealthy relationship with their weight & body image.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Listen.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However much weight you lose in whatever amount of time is NOT what matters most.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Weight loss is NOT the end all be all.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Weight loss is NOT the goal.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The goal is to eat & move in a way that helps you look better, feel better, and ultimately be better in other areas of your life.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have a lot of body fat to lose, and you consistently implement diet & exercise strategies to improve your body composition…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You will lose weight —> and that's a good thing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because weight loss is the side effect of those healthy changes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Bottom Line:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Weight loss is not the goal ❌⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Weight loss is a side effect ✅⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Weight loss is also a tool.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of many tools — alongside measures, pictures, gym progress, clothes fit, and many others — that ensure the changes you're making with diet & exercise are moving you in the right direction.

  • Do you know what an eagle does when a storm is coming? The eagle will fly to a high spot and and wait for the winds to arrive.
When the storm hits, the eagle will move his wings, so that the winds will pick it up and lift it above the storm.
Growing up, these storms drowned me. I kept sinking, over and over until one day, I had an overdose. I sunk to the bottom of the ocean and Gods hand reached down and pulled me out. From then on- I realized that everything needed to change.
I started with learning to love myself so much I respected myself. You love yourself when you can turn away from something that feels good and exciting to what you need to stay strong, centered, and moving forward in your life. You love yourself when it’s about what you NEED not what you want.
I fought my bad habits. I accepted my flaws and worked on them. I respected my brain enough to make it stronger.
I respected my body by eating a clean healthy diet and working out.
I decided to use the shit parts of my life as leverage to float above the storm. Now, I don’t know what I’d do without the storm. I need the storm to grow and become the best version of myself.
So, when the storms of life come upon us, rise above them! Let the winds that bring turmoil on our life rise us higher and closer to God. Use the hard times as leverage..
We can over come the storm.

  • ⁣Captured in my element:⠀
⠀
✔ Barefoot and sweaty⠀
✔ Weights clanking⠀
✔ Rap blasting⠀
✔ Flexing in the Gainz Cave (yes, this is our garage 🤷🏽‍♀️)⠀
⠀
I can’t harp on the importance of strength training for everyone - especially women. Regardless of whatever your practice is, strength training is a must in my opinion. Aside from strength itself as a constant benefit (hell no, I don’t need help carrying them groceries 😂), building self CONFIDENCE is key. ⠀
⠀
Happy Flex Friday all.

  • I used to be scared of the gym
.
The one reason I should have been in there was the one reason I felt like I didn’t belong in there
.
Now it’s one of my favourite environments to be in
.
🦄 I love the feeling of being strong
🦄 It’s empowering AF
🦄 I love the feeling of being able to pick up something which once seemed impossible
🦄 I love being able to add a bit to your lifts
🦄 I love continuously challenging myself; physically and mentally
🦄 I love the feeling of consistent, gradual improvements
🦄 I love being a strong woman. Not just strong for a woman, but a strong human that is a woman. There’s a difference
.
In my opinion, lifting weights (consistently, and progressively over time) is one of the most empowering processes you can undertake
.
It tests not only your physical strength, but your mental strength
.
I get that the gym can be a scary place to start with. Trust me, I avoided it like the plague for a long time
.
💥 But please don’t let others opinions of you hold you back from feeling like a bad ass MF
.
... mostly because the likelihood of anyone inside the gym thinking ANYTHING of you is pretty low. They’re only concerned with their own progress
.
But if they are judging you, you have my permission to tell them to fuck off
.
^ just kidding... kinda
.
My better advice is that their judgements say more about them than they do about you
.
And let me repeat...
Please don’t let others opinions of you hold you back from feeling like a bad ass MF 🦄
.
You won’t feel more comfortable in the gym by avoiding it. You’ll feel more comfortable in the gym by feeling more familiar being inside it...
.
So get cho delicious booty in there and start the process of becoming a strong MF 😈

  • Killing some energy on another cold day.
Had flashbacks to using my shoes for brakes. Also didn’t help that I’m about 100 lbs too heavy for the bike 😬🙄 #winterblahs

  • Balance~
An integral piece in this puzzle of life. Finding that sweet spot in all aspects. The push and the pull is what gets us somewhere in the middle, right?
It took me years to even grasp this concept. I was an all or nothing kinda gal. 🤗
-
My self study and continued education along the way has shown me, that being well rounded serves me much better than being super strong in one area. -
I cherish my yoga practice and love being a guide. I don’t run any longer (protecting my prosthetic hip) but love challenging hikes. I dig a good spin class to just really get the funk off and sweat it out. I also lift weights. I train my strength. This is extremely important to compliment the other areas of movement that I choose. -
Doing the same thing over and over, often can lead to overuse issues. The majority of yoga classes are strictly “pushing” movements. We don’t have many options with our own body weight, to incorporate any “pulling” in yoga. This can leave us unbalanced. Strength training with weights, straps, bars, etc. to counter the movements in our yoga classes will only enhance our practice. It is so important to pair strength with flexibility. -
Many of our yoga poses can compromise our joint health if the surrounding muscles are not strong enough to offer support in those postures. We often sink deeper in the asanas (yoga poses) with the intention of progressing that pose. Maybe not realizing that this taxes the ligaments surrounding those joints. Leaving us out of balance and with discomfort. -
There may be some purists that feel yoga is all that one needs. That is a personal decision. However, science states otherwise. ✌🏼
Reach out if you need guidance on finding balance. I offer private sessions in my studio, based on your individual needs/goals.
