Dark Peak Mountain Marathon today.
So much mud and technical terrain in high winds but what beautiful scenery around Ladybower, Derwent and Howdon Clough. Almost a shame to be racing when the views are so good. .
Happy to come away with the win and new CR but it’s now time to have a few days rest before I start road marathon training. My chesty cough is still not completely gone and I really need to be a 100 % healthy before I embark on a decent training block. .
If you have never raced around this area, you must it’s stunning. But remember to do up your laces tight or you may we’ll lose a shoe 🤣
Broke 4 hours and probably multiple other body parts but I’m here and I did it!!! Such an incredible race that always brings so much joy and so many tears. The last 6 miles I felt like complete garbage and cried a lot running up by the hospital on mile 24. So many amazing kids fighting such a hard fight under circumstances that are unimaginable and I’m so grateful for their spirit and determination to be out there for all 26,000 runners this morning. Forever I will be grateful for St. Jude Children’s Hospital as we continue to work together to end childhood cancer!

Friday morning HIIT training 👏
I'm definitely still a sweaty, tired mess sat on the floor (haven't quite made it to the shower yet) but I'm pleased it's done!
Getting out of bed early is always hard. This morning was no exception! I snoozed the alarm a few times but we eventually got there and I feel soooooo much better! I do love a morning workout but over the last few weeks getting up and on it has felt hard!
Hoping I can find some sort of morning routine again over the next few weeks, but for now it's done and it's Friday so the positive vibes are on. Have a good one 🎉

Just plank chillen, nbd. Getting better and more sore with these as I complete the #25daysofFitness challenge 👍🏼 today was a light workout of strategic lifting and stretching. Barely broke a sweat! Legs feel fresh and ready for tomorrow’s long run (for now at least 😟)
I don’t know about the fast part BUT if it’s my first marathon distance, it’s technically a PR sooo...
All the nerves— obsessively checking weather, trying to keep to my pre-long run routine, aware of every little twinge of an ache/pain (ya girl rolled an ankle on shake out run today 🤦🏼♀️) and SO grateful for everyone who has reached out with well-wishes an positive vibes. I’ll be thinking if you all tomorrow!

Took the long run to the coast due to rain ➡️ 22.6 miles. Figured trails would be even worse than last week. I always feel self-conscious running over there because there are so many lean, fast runners and I feel like a poser. But I can always count on encounters that renew my sense of self. Today's encounter occurred when an older guy called out, " Hey you! I passed you way back in Carlsbad. You must be going really far!" Then followed a 20 minute conversation about how he used to train for Whitney and the trails he used for training. It was delightful and uplifting, and damn, if I didn't have a skip in my step as I walked away. Special things can happen if you let them.
I feel like I’ve been training forever, lol - but I’ve finally made it to the start line happy, healthy, and hopeful - that’s already a win in my book! 🎉 Now to celebrate with a 26.2 mile victory dance!! 💃🏻 #marathontraining#road2cim
This training cycle has been full of constant sniffling, sneezing, coughing, and wheezing for me. For the last three months or so I’ve been trying to figure out why my paces suddenly dropped and why I couldn’t seem to make it further than about three miles on any run (I think I had maybe three runs longer than three miles -- all with lots of walking). With another cold this week, I decided to switch from the half marathon to the 5k. I’m disappointed to not be running the longer distance, but I know I’m just not up for it right now. I’m glad to still be running at least and excited to watch everyone cross the finish line of the half.
TO ALL MY FRIENDS RACING TOMORROW❤️
You have worked SO HARD to even line up tomorrow. Believe you are capable of what you have trained for. Because you are.
You deserve the success coming your way. Don’t let your head doubt that when things start hurting. Push forward for what you want, *embracing* the pain- that pain is pushing you forward towards your goal!
Anything the race throws at you is something you are prepared for. You don’t need “perfect” to show your strength. You are gritty, you’re a fighter, & you can handle whatever happens. Stay steady & don’t get thrown off mentally. Pivot, find your footing again- & PUSH!
✨BE YOUR BEST FRIEND & COACH!
Everyone has tough patches in a race. Do NOT get down on yourself during that time.
Be your best friend- remind yourself how incredible & amazing you are. Use your mantras, remind yourself of how capable you are, but under no circumstances should you let your brain start beating you up. Your mind is a negative-free zone. You’re the star athlete- & as a cheerleader- you have one job- to cheer & motivate yourself through the tough spots. When negative thoughts come in, take back control.
Be your coach- remind yourself how capable you are. Coach yourself back to the right form & pace. Know that no feeling in a race is permanent. You *CAN turn the ship around.
✨YOU ARE IN CONTROL!
Remember that pain & pacing is all negotiable. It’s ok if things start feeling hard, if the pace starts slowing. Take a deep breath, & work mentally & physically to get yourself back there. Your mind starts trying to play the quit game long before your actual stopping point. Don’t let it sabotage you.
✨YOU WANT THIS!
When things get hard, when the fatigue seems like it’s dulling your sense of desire for your goal- wake your body back up & tell it - YOU WANT THIS! Get that fire back. You trained for this. You want this. You can do it. KEEP YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME!
⚡️WHY NOT YOU & WHY NOT NOW.⚡️You are in charge of your destiny. Remember that. It can feel like weather is in charge, but it isn’t. YOU are. You were meant to succeed. Believe it. Now run that success down.❤️
Night Jingle 5k Run. I was shooting for a 9:02 min per mile and ended up being able to keep a pace of 8:48 min/mile. Not in the plans at all but legs felt great during the run so I went for it.
It was great runnjng with my family and enjoying the pre run festivities. As you can maybe tell in picture one I was so excited to take a picture with the Grinch. He is my spirit animal, except not really because I love the holidays. And since the run was in the evening we were able to enjoy some beautiful decorated houses. Overall such a great time! #run#jinglebellrun#grinch#5k#fitness#familyfunrun#christmas#running#womensrunningcommunity#brooksrunning#chillyrun#warmrun
What a great way to end 2019!! 🌟Today’s 30km race went so well!!
Its the best I have ever felt in any race ever, I felt strong and relaxed. I finished feeling super strong and then the thoughts of should of gone harder came in. I quickly stopped them and changed them to being grateful for having a great race. The weather was perfect for running, hot but not too bad.
Thanks to my amazing coach @haylz_newman for endless support and believing in me, very excited to see what 2020 will bring!
Once in a while I would like to throw in some speedwork to spice things up a bit. While the pace is not that hot, my heart says otherwise. I attempted a 20mins tempo with a warm up and cool down. Legs were feeling pretty good, but my heart was working pretty hard (Zones 4 and 5). Speedwork is still an alien territory at this stage but it doesn’t mean I shouldn’t get re-aquatinted with it once in a week, depending on how I feel. I’ll only introduce speedwork when my rest and recovery are on point and my resting heart rate is low. Both are true today. Today’s session shows that I still need to keep working on my aerobic and endurance. Have a great weekend 😊 - -
Completed my first #ragnarrelay at #ragnartrailflorida this weekend! There's a lot that happened, but the best parts were that my team was great and that I didn't die. I'm happy to say that I kicked butt, I think. Cheers to my second trail race ever (and funny that both of them have been ~16 miles)! Also, congrats to all of my friends who raced the @orlandohalfmarathon today! I had a lot of fomo, but thankfully I managed to have a ton of fun too. 😁
Mommy burnout is real.
Salt Lake's air is toxic.
This week has been a tough one from an emotional and mental standpoint. I've felt stressed and trapped. My baby hasn't been sleeping. Everyone is tired.
Normally Saturday is family day.
When I told my husband I needed a few hours alone he was supportive and understanding.
Today was a reset. I am not waiting until new year's fir a resolution. Even though I am a therapist I don't take great care of my mental health. So I am going to make purposeful efforts to practice what I preach. Sometimes I feel guilty putting myself first. But as a mom and wife I give and give. I fill other's buckets all day every day. And now I am going to be mindful and purposeful about filling mine. .
I will do this by ruining because I love it and I love taking care of my body.
Taking time for quietness
Spending quality time with my husband, not just catching up before bed.
Adventure daily. They dont have to be big. Little things to shake up the routine.
Letting myself be unproductive aka if I want to read instead of do dishes I will, if I want to spend the day on nature with my kids and let the house go to pot, I will. .
2020 will be good.

Day 1508 - 17.5 miles with @jmotzz. I never hit that comfortable rhythm on today's long run, but running the whole time with Jenna, getting muddy, and trying new coffee shops made the miles go by rather quick and pretty easy! Suddenly training for Land Run 50k this spring feels real and I'm getting so excited. Moving back to the Midwest was a great choice.
33 weeks 🤰🏻
This last week I was feeling a little down about running. Fatigue and soreness were getting the best of me and my last run felt less than great. I sort of resigned that maybe I’m done running. 😢 I decided to go out tonight for a mile or two just to test it out and see how it felt. I felt so good. Like myself! It just goes to show you that, pregnant or not, a few bad workouts don’t define you or your fitness. Bad runs will always be there- but the good ones will also be just around the corner. That’s why we run- always in search of that next good run. 3 miles tonight with some much needed fresh air! 🤗

I love our Saturday meet-ups. I love that we are keeping each other on track for when @gazellesports Winter Run Camp starts in January. But most importantly I love the friends we’ve become!

got home from work, cracked a beer 🍺 five swallows, cheese & crackers 🧀later, i wasn’t going to run. marathon training starts next week, so i could totally just take the rest day before it’s time to really buckle down on training again. (chicago marathon lottery next week!!) but... i’m working a race tomorrow, so i won’t be home before dark again & am unlikely to run. i asked pig, she said we should run. emphatically. so we got dressed. she wore the safety vest so i didn’t have to. and the blinky light. we ran a mile. RAN, 8:24! 👊🏼 that is fast for us. in 2018 we were averaging 10 something min/mi. you bet we both got treats after that run 🍪🍺🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🍺

Met the living legend, Scott Jurek at the California International Marathon Expo today. He signed my bib and hat, super cool! He said “ Gotta do Javelina. Get that done!” Before I left he said he signed my bib upside down so I can see it tomorrow while running ☺️ Thank you @scottjurek I know I’m not back 💯% but I’ll make sure to run smart, dig deep and have fun! It’s gonna be a freezing and wet 26.2 ❄️🥶 #digdeeper#CIM#marathon
What show to I run in? For most my races for over 6 years you can find me in @brooksrunning adrenaline. Can you believe this shoe has been the favorite for 20 years?! Whoa?!!! They just released some new colors and patterns of the Go-To-Shoe AKA Adrenaline GTS as it also known. I try to pick out styles that aren’t in the stores cause ya know me. Gotta be extra. .
One of the benefits or pains of losing weight and also properly training for me has been my change in shoe sizes for running. I used to run in 10-10.5 and after my latest shoe analysis I’m now in a 9. If your gearing up for any spring races make sure you get a foot analysis and for women bra sizing! Now is the time and grab those sales. #justrunalex#runhappyambassador
Title: every other shot looked like I was in pain and the dog looked cute in this one.
I almost thought I just wouldn’t post a pic or talk about my run, but:
A. That’s soooooo not me.
B. How would anyone know I ran?
C. I needed y’all to see this @oiselle Lux Mile One. It’s maybe my new favorite.
Ok, byeeeeeeee 🤗

30 miles logged this week. It is amazing how great running makes me feel.
Is running really all mental? 🤨
Kinda. I mean there is a physical part of running but our brains are muscles that need training as well. 💪🏼
Has the distance of your run stopped you before you even got started? Fear and doubt flood your brain - all before you step outside. 😬
Here’s a mental tip to use next time your milage is daunting:
Take for example your scheduled 6 mile run. If 6 miles is too much, break it down so you can trick your brain. It’s just 3 miles..... you gotta do twice.
See the difference? Same end goal (6 miles) but if you break it down to smaller increments it doesn’t feel so overwhelming.🙌🏼👏🏼
