Happy National #TakeAHikeDay , friends! Just wanted to take a moment to share some love towards such an all-around healthy activity that takes us to the most amazing views. 💕 Hiking has been an incredibly important part of my life the last half decade or so. It has truly taught me so much about myself, as well as so many valuable life lessons — like how to disconnect and be present in the moment, how to live more minimally, how to be more environmentally responsible, how to research and prepare for anything, and (especially) how many amazing people exist in our outdoor community world, just waiting to offer a helping hand or a good story. ✨ Are you thankful for hiking? What has it taught you? •
Sometimes I think that when people see my page they just see the triumphs… the big smile… the beautiful backdrops… and the rest of the story just gets lost in the illusion that the path to where I am today left me unscathed… but, as with most people I know, there’s so much more to the story…
On November 22nd, 2014 I was sitting at work when I got a text from my mom saying, “call me when you get this”. Little did I know but that text was about to rock my world and flip my entire reality upside down.
That was the morning I found out that my Dad passed away and after about a month of managing his paperwork and finances, I returned back to my life in Lake Tahoe only to realize that nothing was the same… I didn’t know it at the time but this moment was going to become THE defining moment that lead me towards the very unexpected place I am today.

I constantly go back and forth between wanting the ground covered in snow, and wanting to go back to the greenest summer I’ve ever hiked 🤔😍

Post-trail depression is real. How can I assimilate back into regular life after living through such an epic adventure? .
I'm back in Virginia, here to support Retune and come to terms with the conclusion of my Appalachian Trail thru-hike. .
Yesterday I walked a 10 mile section of the trail and reminisced about one of my most favorite days going NoBo: swimming at Dismal Falls. In this cool autumn weather the feel of the waterfall did not compare to what it felt like in June. But it was nice to be there again and to remember such a fun day shared on trail with the other hikers. .
Giving you my best bear spray modeling pose in Yellowstone 🐻 I had so much fun reliving this trip for my latest blog post - a complete beginner’s guide to visiting Yellowstone. There are nearly endless options for planning your trip, but you should stop procrastinating since reservations for 2020 open up in January! Link is in my bio for our four-day, beginner-friendly itinerary. I got altitude sickness, was very scared of bears, and had the trip of a lifetime. #outdoorbeginner
Peaceful pale-throat at Sloth slab. Still working through PTSD of being dropped, but I’m climbing a little better every week. Fear is my major limiter. It’s totally irrational bc my current climbing partners are super safe and attentive. I think I need to fall a few times and be caught in order to start pushing myself to do harder climbs.

This was taken 5 minutes after waking up in the backcountry. Bright eyed and bushy tailed!
Girl's weekend in Joshua Tree was a success.

“Are you polluting the world or cleaning up the mess?” - @ekharttolle
I’m currently reading “The Power of Now” by Ekhart Tolle... it’s my first time reading it... I tried once many years ago but quickly put it down... because wtf. Clearly I wasn’t ready for the message(s) in this book. I only read 5-10 pages each day because that is literally all I can digest. It’s intense, upsetting, liberating, confusing, empowering, inspiring, mind blowing and so much more. If you haven’t read it yet I highly recommend it.
The section I read this morning was right on time with our participation in #optoutside ... I re-read it like 4 times. I’ve included the full passage in our stories, but I will leave you with this... “Whether your thoughts and emotions about a situation are justified or not makes no difference. The fact is that you are resisting what is. You are making the present moment into an enemy. You are creating unhappiness, conflict between inner and the outer. Your unhappiness is polluting not only your own inner being, and those around you but also the collective human psyche of which you are an inseparable part. The pollution of the planet is only an outward reflection of an inner psyche pollution: Millions of unconscious individuals not taking responsibility for their inner space.” - Ekhart Tolle
Let’s chat about it, what comes up when you read ⬆️ that?
Does this impact your thoughts on what it means to Opt to Act?
That feeling when you're in the mountains! ❤ No better way to start the week!

Coolest dude on the trails. ⠀⠀ ↟ ↟ ↟
Tbh griz can be a real pain in the ass sometimes but he’s MY pain in the ass, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re trying to catch up on sleep from another dream of a weekend - I haven’t seen griz pass out so hard in a hot minute 😂
Mental health is a hot topic these days, and for good reason. We live in a stressed out, burnt out, busy-all-the-time kinda world. And while it can feel nearly impossible to set aside time to do the things that make your brain and body happy, it really should be at least on our priority list. So if your kiddos or work are as such that you can’t take a full day in nature to rejuvenate, try this week to step outside when you can. Breath in that fresh air, look up at the rain or sun, and let your body soak it in. Even science is now proving that we are our best selves when connected to nature. And trust me, your body will thank-you for taking the time to rest.
A HUGE shout out to our local vendors and friends who came and celebrated with Saturday for our GRAND OPENING! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
We are officially open for business ALL WINTER LONG and can’t wait to see those of you who booked with us this week! Don’t forget to bring your Local Discount cards in for 20% off any service!

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all” – Helen Keller
Unfortunately I missed out on posting on #TakeAHikeDay but it’s because I was actually outside doing exactly that. Getting outside and exploring has really become my saving grace. It allows me to relax and truly enjoy life. Going on adventures allows me to de-stress. I am able to do what I love by taking photos but also I’m able to be active. We should all get outside more and take in what nature has to offer. If you want to know where to find me, that is where I’ll be 🍁
Where did you go hiking? 🤔

It’s kind of a gross rainy day here in Toronto. With most of our snow being melted, or washed, away, I thought it might be nice to look back on a more fair weather fall shot, from one of my hikes through the Don Valley.
The best way to have spent my Saturday, hiking to one of my favorite lakes. This view never disappoints. #pnwisbeautiful

The desert never disappoints...except when the geyser doesn’t go off 😉
“When I’m out, deep in the woods, time takes on a new value. No longer am I aware of time as a modern construct—instead, it’s determined by my immediate surroundings as the sunlight projects it. Nothing else matters besides what is directly right in front of you, what’s beneath your feet, and what you feel in your lungs...” -Bri Wenke
@artbybri shares why camping trips are so vital to her & her overall mental health. We love watching her utilize our Wanderr Chair in various creative outlets; all while exploring the world ⛺️
Since the forecast was looking bad, I told my friend I was going to do Mt. Si to at least get some conditioning. She suggested taking a chance with a 3am start up St. Helens instead. Sure, that works too 😊

Cold, windy summit of #camelshump . It was too cold to take proper summit selfies with the tripod. So quick pics with the #iphone11 propped against a rock was the best I could do. We carried our snowshoes, but only needed spikes. Once we got off the summit, the wind calmed down quite a bit. I would love to go back in warmer weather… the views 😍 .
I used to wake up and cry because I was human and life must go on. But now I rise and cry because I’m moved by the miracles around me, because let’s be honest. Everything is a miracle. The chaos of the universe always stuns me in the best way.
